This winter I did some backwoods hiking, attempting to use my cell-phone GPS to get from a winter-road to a hidden gem of a lake. It didn't go well and I ended up giving up trying to find the lake after walking in circles for an hour. The GPS on my smartphone just didn't cut it. I bought this GPS shortly after returning home from the trip. I haven't had a chance to test it "deep" in the woods yet, but walking through the Northern Boreal of Alberta, Canada, it did excellent. Load in your way points, follow the arrow! Couldn't be simplier! Once you get to point A or point B, or find something neat you want to mark, it's just a touch of the screen. Want to back-track? It saves your path! Battery life seems alright, but not stellar. All in all, I think I'll be very comfortable relying on the GPS to get me around in the woods over this summer. If that changes, I'll let you know.
