The disposal works just fine. A little problem with the installation. You definitely need some petroleum jelly to put it together. Other than that it fine.
Easy to install and work well - lets see how long it will work
This is our second disposal of the same model. Excellent product! Highly recommended. Included seal worked great on our cast iron sink
So far very good. I love it's slender build and easy to install.
I got this to replace a 13 year old GE. Its way quieter than my last one and smaller as well but the only problem I had was the installation. The thick rubber gasket that you have to mount on the drain piece that the garbage disposal mounts to hang On was a a absolute pain to fit right. There are groves that the gasket is supposed to slide into but I had to retry about 50 times to get it to set in right. I have replaced disposals before for family and friends and never had this issue. Could be it was made incorrectly form the factory. I would sill recommend it and hopefully If you purchase It you wont have the same issues.
I am on my third GFC520. The first two, after slightly more than 2 years, broke. In each case the impellers on the grinding plate separated. We are very careful what we grind - no bones, cut into small pieces before grinding etc. Assumed the first was an anomaly. Only bought a third since customer relations offered a $50 rebate, replacement installation is easy and maybe improvements were made in manufacture. The first two were GFC520Vs, the third is a GFC520N. The disposal function of grinding works well when impellers are in place and does not lock up. Question has the impeller issue been addressed in the new model number? I would not recommend unless there were improvements made in construction of the impeller attachments to the grinding plate.
The unit works well, but the interior is rusted after 45 days of use. It look like it is 3 years old.
Poorly made. Why has it corroded less than 2 years after being installed in a new build
When the disposer is turned on, water begins to leak from the joint between the upper and lower parts of the case of the disposer. The leaking began a week after the start of work. When the disposer is not running and the water is fully turned on, no leakage occurs.
Had this installed in our new home with septic system. Very light use perhaps once every couple of weeks for 2-3 people. When it runs its seems efficient and quiet, however it has frozen up twice within the past year. First time we couldn't get the motor to turn using recommended methods and reviewed some YouTube videos. Hired a plumber who was surprised to learn there isn't way to try to manually turn it (like other disposals) by using a hex wrench. Plumber ended up taking the unit apart the first time to get it to turn and reinstalled until 2 months later it's frozen up again. Appears to be rust in the disposal. We're about 14 months into a new home (past warranty) and this is the only item which has failed us - twice.
