Bought this to replace a non-working compactor and it works as expected and was a snap ti install. Its sleek front blends in well to my kitchen without calling attention to itself. It is a little loud when running, again expected, so chose an appropriate time to run is needed.
Sleek lines, no knobs outside, love it easy to use control Inside & step on floor control to open, lift with foot to compact. Great features!!!
Love this product just got it and looks so good. Matches my kitchen, packed well and great quality and price
just put it in still waiting on dishwasher to come in
We finally replaced our 14 year old trash compactor and what a difference. This GE compactor is heavy duty, very simple to use and very easy to install.
Wheel/rollers/bearings don't last. In five years, I've had to replace 3 of 4. Also I've had to fix the foot switch/plate that starts the compactor, twice. Added my own handle to facilitate opening/closing the unit.
Unit looks great, but from day one it does not open or close smoothly. Bounces as it opens and closes, what you would expect if something was stuck to the wheels. I checked, nothing stuck to the wheels. Now the unit hardly opens and it appears the door is bending due to the large amount of resistance from opening it. Also, do not feel the 2400 pounds is enough force to properly compress the bag.
The door on this trash compactor is very flimsy. It has a lot of play both right and left and in turn has already nicked my new cabinets which is not good. Unless you absolutely push in straight in you're going to hit the cabinet. Not real thrilled with it. It does smash the food fine which is what we want it just doesn't seem to be as sturdy as our old one.
After about 6 months I noticed some sluggishness when opening the unit to place refuse inside. Today I took the fiberboard side covers off & found both the plastic ram stoppers were destroyed. As expensive as this unit is I expected far better quality from GE then what I've found. I have several other GE appliances that have seved me well for a number of years, but his compactore is a big disappointment.
I bought this compactor to replace one that came with my home built 21 years ago. I have a trusted appliance dealer just about to go out of business and he could only get this one. I figured they all looked the same so why not. From the day I put it into the encloser I could feel the difference between it and the 21 year old appliance it was replacing. The slider was not as smooth and wasn't as quiet. I ran into some issues closing it early on and today the door was completely stuck after only 3 months of use.
