Lasted 8 - 1/2 years. Installed in Mar 09 and died Nov 17. Cost $6.96 back then so $0.82 per year amortization.
Bought 6 of these to replace existing incandescent floodlight in kitchen on Jan 2, 2009. One has already failed after only 10 days of service. (Make sure you retain your receipt and UPC if you expect GE to live up to their 5 year replacement limited warranty.) These bulbs are about 1/4" longer than incandescent bulbs. Unless your recessed cans are adjustable, these CFLs will stick out slightly. At 65F they start out really dim and take about 2 minutes to reach full brightness. (Make sure you have an alternate light source if you need "instant" light.) Overall they do put out sufficient light and will save electricity. The question is how reliable they will be...
I called GE. They told me these bulbs will NOT start at temps. below 5 degrees F. In the northeast, that leaves a lot of people in the dark.
These lamps take a couple minutes to brighten up enough to see. Bought 6 of these and 3 burnt out in a month or less. GE has a VERY poor product.
