The set up was very easy. I used it for the first time and it worked like a charm. I will come later down the road to do another review since I've only used it once.
Was form, fit, and function equivalent to the old GE 1.7 cubic foot micowave. It actually was slight smaller in height but looked even smaller when installed. The backside exhaust fit perfectly into the old units wall cutout.
Installation was not as easy as it should be, but manageable. For the most part the instructions for the pieces and parts were understandable. The true obstacle was using the template to match up the holes on top of the microwave to the cabinet. I understand that not everyone's cabinets are the same. There were to many line measurements and information on the template that it made it confusing to read. Also the bottom of my cabinet is not flush. Luckily I had a second person with me help me install it by using landmarks on the microwave and my cabinet. I taped a couple pieces of paper to the top of my microwave and then had the other person put the microwave onto the properly installed support bar and hold it in place. Then while standing on a ladder, I marked on the paper where the cabinet ran across the top of the microwave. I had also marked lines that aligned withe the holes at the paper at the front of the paper using a right angle tool. While marking the cabinet position on the paper, I also used a pencil to mark on the cabinet where the screw holes where aligned. We dropped the microwave down to the ground, and measured from the cabinet marking to the screw holes on the top of the microwave. Once I knew that distance, I measured it up on the cabinet in-line with screw hole markings I had left on the cabinet. I double checked my measurements, and then drilled. We put the microwave back up on the support rack, and dropped the screws to secure it. The screws dropped right in, and I tightened them down. My power plug pretty much was the ame process. We had tried taping the temate, but it wasn't working, and where we had put the marks when we thought it was up properly, ened being several inches off. So it is now up and running and my wife is using it to help make dinner. I don't heat her fusing. Total project time, 3 hours.
Oven works fine so far but the template provided for top-exhaust option led us to saw an opening more than twice the size than necessary. I strongly recommend getting your specific duct work connection in advance and create your own template for an opening that is right-sized. That way you will still have a functional cabinet above the stove.
The lightning under the microwave is terrible, the light is yellow in color and it is no LED. This day and age all lights should be LED. I am going out and replacing the incandescent lights with LED. Other than that the microwave is working great.
Install was fairly easy. Features are good along with price. The quality is less than expectations as seems more plastic parts was changed. Simple upgrades should by now been incorporated such as lighting should be LED, better filtration system and dimmable feature for time display. Overall satisfied with price and features.
Product is great! Installed 3/29/2024. At 4/10/2024, plastic over control panel is damaged and small bubbles are apparent. This is extremely disappointing. I have photos.
This is the second GE microwave oven I have purchased in four years. The first one was very similar to the new one I just bought. The old one broke down after about 4 years and in my opinion too quickly, which makes me question the quality and safety of GE products. The oven started to turn itself ON when I opened the door after the end of a cycle, which was also very unsafe. To take the food out I had to unplug it first. After a few days of that, the oven stopped heating completely. When the oven was working, I liked it and I liked its controls, so I decided to give it another chance and buy GE product again. I hope I made the right decision, only time will tell. The new oven is quieter now, and the controls are still intuitive and easy to operate and have enough features. What I do not like about the new oven is the very bright display, it is way too bright and there is no way to dim it down. It lights up the kitchen at night and it is bothering my eyes, so I had to put a partially opaque tape over it so now I can live with it. I was also surprised that the light bulb inside the oven and the surface light underneath (I have over the counter model) are still old type incandescent lightbulbs. I expected LED lights by now, but apparently not yet. What is up with that GE?
This is a replacement microwave for a built-in cabinet over our cooktop. We went with this GE microwave because we were happy with the previous GE microwave and because it fit in the cabinet. (It is, however, slightly shorter than our previous one.) Our main complaint is it is not as high quality as our previous one. It is tinny sounding when the door is opened and closed, noisier when running, the surface light is not as bright so it does not shed as much light on the cooktop below. and it does not respond to settings as quickly as our older model. We would not recommend to anyone the purchase of this microwave. The lasting impression is that GE is cheapening their appliances.
The microwave broke in 3 years. It stopped working in May 2023, and we tried to fix it by manually replacing the diode and capacitor. We purchased a new one and replaced it and it started to work again. But then, only a couple months later, the microwave broke again.. super unreliable. It's better to get a microwave that will last longer than this one. I don't recommend anyone to get this microwave.
