We recently replaced our 2003 white GE Profile cooktop with a black cooktop to coordinate with our new dark gray countertops. If we can enjoy 18 years with this new model, we will be thrilled. The white cooktop is in perfect condition and works as well today as the when we first bought it. GE Profile has been good to us.
We had a 30 yr old Jenn Air downdraft cook top mounted in an island. There were very few choices for downdraft models so we were very pleased and surprised when this cook top installed so easily and performed so well. At this time we don't have any long term experience with this product, but our past GE purchases have provided us with a good experience.
This cooktop is perfect! The design is modern and updates our kitchen with a sleek, tech savvy look. It heats up quickly with multiple cooking area options. This cooktop is easy to clean and the downdraft fan has three settings that allow for quiet operation.
I'm not a huge cook so I did not want to invest in switching to gas when we updated our kitchen. This cooktop serves all my needs when cooking for my family and provides a sleek, new look for my kitchen renovation.
Pretty easy to install, wiring was a small challenge but nothing to really complain about. The stickers on the cooktop were a pain, especially the one that says “clean with included cleaner before use”. I used goo gone and a microfiber towel and it took care of it, and the used the included cleaner and pad. You have to put some pressure on the microfiber towel to remove the cleaner. It's like car wax, keep buffing it will come up. If not it appears to be tiny scratches, which it isn't. Buff again. Haven't used the stove to cook yet, so when I do I may report on the performance. So far pretty nice.
This is a great cooktop. The downdraft doesn't completely rid kitchen of odors but works well enough. Power boil is really fast. Black surface is hard to keep looking clean all the time but over all very nice and sharp looking.
Amost 5 stars. Only thing missing is control knob area needs to have back light. would suggest lock/unlock knob be replaced with 3 position switch with third position act as a control knob area light. kind of hard to see dial numbers without light. Otherwise cook top is perfect. exhaust fan very impressive. elements heat up quick too.
Although I find the cooktop to be an excellent product, the installation was a nightmare. GE didn't care what a nightmare it would be to transition from a rectangle to a round ventilation duct in 11 inches of space. I was so disappointed. I had to order a particularly short 90º angle transition to make it work. Shame on you GE for having a let them worry about it attitude.
We replaced our outdated cooktop with this 30” GE Profile unit. Our biggest concern was insuring the new cooktop would fit into the granite countertop opening. GE's guaranteed fit eased our minds. The unit actually fit perfectly. The Profile cooktop is not only very attractive with the stainless steel trim that matches our other kitchen appliances but it heats up so much faster than our old cooktop. The downdraft blower also is significantly more powerful than our old unit. My only concern and why I didn't rate it 5 stars is because the wiring leads were not very long and made it more difficult than necessary to connect to the 120v power supply line.
I'd say the downdraft is not like they used to be. The surface is too fragile and sometimes it works great and others not so much. Overall, I'd say they don't make them like they used to, however with that being said, the profile series is great compared to some other brands. Bosch is the best though.
