This was recommended and I had second thoughts, but wow it is a great cook top. Glad they talked me out of the knobs. This cook top pops against my granite and has just enough burners to make me a happy camper! Great GE product. We went GE with all the appliances and even the laundry room.
We love the layout of the cooktop, it's very user friendly. We have a vented built-in microwave and having the main burner centered in the back maximizes the use of the vents and lights that the microwave provides.
My ancient electric coil stovetop was making me crazy. Neither pots nor pans would sit flat, resulting in many a culinary fiasco. The first time I tried this glass-top GE stovetop, I poured a little oil in the center of a large skillet and it stayed there! I bragged on Facebook about how great this was. I also really like not having knobs, just touch controls that are very responsive. So very glad I finally took the plunge.
I am in love with my cooktop. It truly is a smooth surface - no knobs! I went with controls integrated in the cooktop. I love this feature. It enhances the look and knobs don't have to pulled off and cleaned all of the time. I also like the power boil feature - it really does bring a big pot of water up to boil quickly. Thank you!!
Didn't realize that our newer cooking pans wouldn't be recommended for use on this cook top because they have rounded edges. Had only two pans that could be used. Had to buy two new flat bottomed pans to cook the meals we minimally cook. Clean up has been frustrating because we have to wait until after we have eaten and washed the hand washing dishes before the cook top is cool enough to clean. Then the cleaning process involves cleaning the surface twice with the glass cleaner to get the surface visually clean.
We recently purchased this cooktop to replace our GE Profile glass cooktop that we had for 16 years. First the pros, the burners on the new cooktop heat much quicker than our old cooktop. Also, it’s much easier to clean, especially with the lock feature that turns off all the burners and controls for cleaning. I’ve also enjoyed the cooktop timer which I didn’t think I’d really use at first. Unfortunately, the cons outweigh the pros. At first I was excited that the new 30” design provides 5 burners. I’ve found, however, that it’s difficult to cook even with 3 pans when using a larger pan on the largest, middle burner. The attached photo shows how crowded the cook top gets (the flat bottom of the large, middle sauté pan is 9” and sits on the 9” burner, the bottom of the front right pan is 7” sitting on an 8” burner, and the back, left sauce pan is 6” sitting on the 7” burner). Also, while I initially enjoyed the touch controls, I am finding they’re not responsive when my fingers are damp or have oil on them. This has been a real inconvenience especially when I’m chopping and cooking, have to turn a burner down quickly, and there’s no response because there’s a little water on my fingers. Finally, I’ve only had the cooktop for two months and there’s already two chips on the side (see photo). My old cooktop edges were more rounded and it sat closer to the counter; I never had a problem with chipping. This new one has squared, beveled edges and doesn’t fit as close to the counter. My kitchen is filled with GE Profile appliances, but unfortunately I can't recommend this one.
I bought this about 2 months ago, and it is a terrible design. The large eye in the center ensures that if you use a large frying pan you will encroach on half, if not all of the other eyes rendering them useless. Plus, having to reach over boiling and steaming items on the side eyes to lift the heaviest thing from the center eye is dangerous. I am extremely disappointed in this cook top.
Cooktop replaced 20-yr old GE glass top. Cooks fine, but easily "turns" off if you accidentally touch controls. Far too sensitive. Cooktop is elevated 18" due to foam tape between top and counter. Perfect area to collect crumbs, dirt, food, spills, etc. Messy. Also, elevated top allowed me to "break" the glass by simply sliding a 2-qt pan from the counter to the top. Should be flush against counter top.... Big dissapointment. Love GE and have GE everywhere. But this appliance is a fail.
I didn't get to chose my appliances and the builder installed this thing instead of a gas stove. It looks alright and works as expected. The main downside, besides the fact that your food will not taste as good, is that it gets dirty very fast and it shows the dirt. Be ready to be constantly cleaning this thing.
Complete product failure. We bought in October of 2023, and the bottom completely dropped out in mid January 2024 (see photos). Appliance Factory and GE worked to get us a replacement, a process that took nearly 4 weeks. On top of that - looking at the schematic, we were led to believe that the product had a height of 3.75 incges or so. Turns out, the box with all of the wiring hangs down close to 6 inches from the top, necessitating cabinet modifications, cutting down drawers, and general hassle all around for us. We have the new one installed, so we will see how it goes . . .
