G.I. Joe: Urban Camouflage

In future combat zones, foes will not face each other from the relatively open environments of most Twentieth Century warfare. More and more often, battles are waged within a cityscape-among the sidewalks, bridges, subway systems, and even beneath the streets in the underground tunnel systems. For the U.S. Infantryman, this requires an entirely different philosophy of combat. American soldiers will not see enemies in the sights of a rifle 40 to 200 yards away-the enemy will likely be as close as one's fingertips or as distant as across the street. This kind of combat calls for expertise in the use of environment-specific equipment. Close quarters combat (CQC) requires proficiency in hand-to-hand combat. Methods such as room entry techniques often include a well aimed pistol and zip line from which the soldier slides down with the help of a T-bar. His urban camouflage has gray and white patches to blend in with the concrete of modern buildings. Equipped with all the special gear they need, the U.S. Infantryman continues to counter freedom-threatening forces anywhere in the world.
