I had one of the previous remotes. it was on a hero 4 or 5. something in that era. this is WAY improved. the connection was quick and easy. the battery lasted a long time. i've heard some negatives about the waterproof door for the charger being flimsy, but i've been careful and have had no problems. i'm very happy with the purchase. just fyi, it's paired with 1 Hero10.
I almost never give five star reviews but this is absolute must-have I think for any gopro user. This remote keeps you from wondering if your camera is on when it's mounted on your head, or anywhere you can't tell if it's recording. Before this, I would be fishing mindlessly and forgetting if my camera was running or not and I would miss footage. This has made my life so easy and helped my YouTube page tremendously. The same goes for snowboarding. Also, I have never ran into any usage issues whatsoever with the remote.
With my camera mounted at the end of my Sunfish boom/lower spar, I can't reach it once I'm on the water. I used to just start recording when I launched, but the battery wouldn't last for all the races of the day. Enter the remote. Now I start and stop at just the right times, and I have great video of my races.
Glad I both this and didn't listen to some of the reviews. The ability to start, stop, video, take pics and change modes is easy with the remote. It allows you to also take selfies and group shots easily when using a selfie stick.
We bought this specifically for a trip we are currently on. This trip will culminate in a cage diving adventure with Great Whites in Capetown, SA. It is so small and versatile. Not to be confused with a typical camera, which was the case when first purchased. No zoom. Very wide angle lens. Just a little rethinking makes this so easy and convenient. We have accumulated just about every imaginable accessory since purchase and have found the GoPro+ subscription to be very useful and tempting. It is to be expected to find many purposes once we get home and back to daily activities.
The remote works well with good range. It's nice to switch between recording modes without going outside. The one major downside is that the screen is not backlit. So bring a flashlight if you're in low light situations.
I honestly don't understand how GoPro owners can work without The Remote. When my Hero8 Black (just upgraded to 11) is mounted on my helmet or on my kayak, I cannot get to the shutter button. The Remote, which pairs effortlessly with my Hero8 lets me start/stop videos and take snapshots without even touching the camera. Before I bought The Remote, I lost a lot of shots fumbling with the camera. Now I'm thinking I may buy a 2nd camera. (The Remote can manage up to 5.)
I received the remote as a gift for Christmas 2022 and loved using it while skiing. Unfortunately during a Ski trip in early March 2024, the pixels in the screen started to fail and then became unusable a few days later. I reached out to see about a replacement or getting it fixed, but was told the 1-year warranty had expired and fixing the screen would likely cost more than buying a new remote. I was offered a discount code for my troubles, but this 15% off was only for new cameras. UNACCEPTABLE!
This device is great. When it works. Which, for me, is about 60% of the time. A huge disruption because the camera is mounted out of reach on my motorbike, and I have to keep stopping and dismounting in order to start, stop or mark recording. Waste of money
Super disappointed that the got pro 12 does not work with the remote. Well, it does, but once the cameras shut off and you go to power and back on with the remote the GoPro 12 does not recognize the remote anymore and you have to re pair it every time. Works fine with my GoPro 10 and 11 though.
