This is a very high quality, sturdy swingset. Many of the others we researched are really only appropriate for youger children than ours. We have two boys ages 6 and 8, and one of the cheaper brands would have not been large or sturdy enough for our 8 year old especially. It took about 8 hours for two men to assemble, not counting any breaks. We used an air rachet which made it faster and easier. You should definitely sort, separate, and organize parts before starting as it makes it go much faster and easier. We have had 6 kids on it at once from ages 5 to 12 with no problems...all but one of those boys! (two 10 year olds, one 12, one 8, one 6, one 5). We were very glad we spent the extra for a quality playset that will hold up through our boys entire childhood and still look great!
I decided to start putting this swingset together after a month of it sitting in the garage waiting on my husband and a weekend that it wasn't raining. I labeled every board and hardware piece with a post it note with a number corresponding to the list in the instruction book where I wrote the number also along side the part. I used a Dewalt drill, hammer, square along with the other tools as listed. I've used tools before and built small furniture items etc but I was definately not sure I could tackle this project successfully. It did take around 20 hours over a period of 4 days however that included the repeated interruption of very anxious children. I managed to complete the entire set on my own except for where I needed to lift the swing beam and attach it to the plate. I chose this particular set after looking at several at Lowes, Sams, Home Depot and the Rainbow Systems. It is a great price for the quality of the product. I felt like it was significantly more sturdy and a better quality than the sets that are currently on Lowes lots and the one displayed in Sams. My kids 5 and 3 love it and I am very pleased with it. All the parts were there, it was delivered timely, parts were easy to identify, instructions were easy to follow and I felt like the price was fair. If you can't afford something like the Rainbow Systems but want a sturdy set I would definately recommend this set. I do plan on staining it in the fall for extended life on the wood.
All materials are very high quality, from hardware to lumber. The playset is extremely sturdy - often I swing with our kids, and my husband jumps up on the platform and goes down the slide. Assembly time was about 20 hours, with 2 hours requiring 2 people. We ended up needing some extra deck screws for the roof towards the end of assembly - possibly due to our little helpers throughout the process. Recommended Assembly - 1. Take an evening or two to open each box in your garage. Arrange the box tops and bottoms facing upwards, and work your way through the instructions putting boards together by step in order of use. (1 person) 2. Either as you're staging or after organizing, put together the subassemblies you can, e.g. the the uprights, swing beam, roof gables and chimney, etc. (1 person) 3. Bring the uprights and first few boxes out to your location and begin assembly (2 people) Tips - > We oriented the playset so that we it created the fewest blind spots when viewed from our kitchen > When you're boarding a surface, place the first board where the directions advise, but then use clamps to position a board on the far end of the surface you're finishing - this will ensure that your edge is clean and well connected to its supporting frame > We left the rope off of the climbing wall for a while - it seemed like it would get busy with a 1 & 3 year old, and it's worked out well > We bought 1 accessory infant seat, and it's been great > Kids love taking the flags out of their holders - if you're worried about losing them, glue them > Lock the ladder rungs (the instructions show you how), and do so from below/behind (so that you can't see the screwhead once it's in) > If the stapled-on part numbers are going to annoy you, you might want to remove them as you assemble the playset - after everything's put together, we were too fatigued to care about them
I bought this playset for my 7 and 9 year old and I highly recommend it for older kids but it is certainly approriate for younger kids as well. Unlike most playsets you read about, the assembly of this set was quite easy and the instructions were easy to follow. I do not consider myself an expert at assembling products! The parts were well labeled and I was able to sort all parts in less than one hour. To make things easy I applied by own numbering system to all wooden parts (using a pencil) because the stickers stapled to the ends of the boards did not always stay on well. This made it easier to find the parts during assembly. Other than a few washers and screws missing, which the company shipped immediately, I had everything I needed. Total assembly took about 10 hours with two adults not moving at a fast pace. Two adults are needed for most assembly just to make it easy. Overall the quality is good and it is a very nice looking playset. My only suggestion is to treat it with Thompson's water sealant before assembly just to protect the wood.
This set arrived within a few days of ordering it and the delivery people gladly unloaded it into our garage. It's a lot of stuff! It all arrived in good shape - nothing was broken and we had all the parts we needed - even some extra ones! :) I ordered the glider swing as an extra accessory. It probably took us 16-17 hours to put this swingset together. My wife and children helped by bringing pieces, tools, and fasterners as needed - wasn't anything too hard - just very time consuming. It is super solid and sturdy and easily supports the weight of adults. To anchor it, I drilled holes through the legs in each corner and drove foot-long pieces of rebar through the holes into the ground...probably overkill but defintely not going anywhere now. The only problem we ran into was with the directions for the roof supports - not very clear and didn't come together the way the directions said it would. I was able to modify it though and it worked out OK. I found the landscape timbers at Menard's already stained to match and bought the mulch (35 bags) there too. I'm really pleased with how it all came together and the final product. Our kids (12, 10, 5, and 4) love it!
I looked painstakingly for a good quality set that was safe, affordable and that would work for my yard without having to tear it up to make the thing level. This set is perfect. My boys, ages 6 and 4 absolutely love it and play on it every day that they can. Even the neighbors' kids are on it now that it's getting warmer. It went up so easily, about 3 days total for my boyfriend and me to assemble. My 4-yr-old can't swing himself yet like the 6-yr-old so, when I can't push him, he has a great time on the spinning tire, which he can manage by himself just fine. I just can't fine a single negative feature. It's so safe, so sturdy and we just love it. I know it will last us a very long time!
shipping was really fast. the assembly part about 11 hours incluing inventory all the parts. really nice quality wood. my kids love it.
Looked at a lot of different sets, but this one comes with a wood roof and a ten year warranty if you maintain it. Every thing was labeled, organized and easy to put up. You need two people on two steps and thats it. Boards are nice and thick ,actually real decking boards versus those thin deck boards on the other sets. My kids love this set. It should last a long time. Only issue was that two boards split while putting up and they didn't counter sink two boards for the roof. Had plenty of parts and instructions were great.
8 things to say about this product – price, quality, timing, ease of construction, kid satisfaction, safety, yard requirements, and appearance. 1 – kid satisfaction “Best backyard ever!!!” After the first day playing outside, our 5 year old tells us that he has the best backyard ever as we are tucking him in at night. Both he and his younger brother have played on it every day since we got it. 2 – appearance – it is actually quite attractive in the yard. The little dormer windows and chimneys make it look like a little decoration and not just a kids toy 3 – safety – Gorilla has included four safety handles that I do not even see on most commercial playgrounds. A great feature! 4 – yard requirements – we had a slight slope to our yard. As you can guess, even a slight slope is too much because of the need for a perfectly level yard. Before ordering, I knew that I could only dig max. 6” on one side of the playset (not both sides). But, when the product arrived, I realized that our desired orientation needed to change, because I could not dig a trench that stuck the climbing wall into the ground. In other words, if your yard has even the slighted slope, think about the orientation of the product before it arrives. Luckily, we have a big enough yard to turn it around and still have a safety zone, but if we were in our old yard, we would have been in bad shape. 5 – price – my wife, the researcher, went to over 10 websites and called additionally places – this was the best price for the set. 6 - timing – it took me (doing 90% of it myself) three days to complete mostly because you have to stain the wood. I was staining as I built. My wife was able to stain when the children were playing elsewhere, but I was pretty much on my own. My oldest son (a teenager) was strong enough to hold the larger beams in place while I drilled. 7 – quality – accessories (tire swing, wheel, swings, ladders, etc) – excellent quality. Hardware – also excellent. Design/instructions – guarantee sturdy construction. Wood – not excellent. The pine is the softest pine that I ever worked with. I had to stain the wood in order to protect the wood. My five year old stepped on a piece while I was building and scuffed the surface. The specifications state that it is pre-stained. My wife called the manufacturer since she was confused by reviewers who stated that they needed to stain, so she wanted to find out whether we needed to stain it right away. The manufacturer stated that we had to stain it within a year in order to guarantee the product. However, within a month not a year – the wood would have been scraped and splintered and there would have been none of the powered “pre-stain” remaining. The wood soaked the stain like a sponge – two coats is minimum and we used the $36/can Behr 25yr/10yr quality stain. Whatever stain you use, staining is necessary upfront and early. 8 – ease of construction – unless you are comfortable with a drill, level, screwdriver, and hammer and you can lift heavy 10' support beams, then do not buy the product. If you are comfortable with these basic tools and healthy, then you will have no problem building the set. I needed help as there are some things that you physically cannot do – such as lift a 10' support beam while drilling on one end. However, you will be able to do most of it yourself. This is not like putting together IKEA furniture, which some people think is difficult. There are no true pre-drilled holes. There are some (not all) pre-drilled marks. However, many times, you will have to know to use a 3/16th bit minimum for drilling pilot holes and how to deal with some warped pieces and what to do about the problems with the roofing boards. These can be worked out by any person comfortable with Do-It-Yourself projects. Because of the softness of the wood, be careful not to strip the smaller screws when using a power driver. On the plus side, you would not necessarily want sharp edged oak on playground stuff that your kids would be bumping into, so the softness of the wood makes some sense. Overall, “Best Playground Ever”.
We had been doing lots of research on swing sets and we chose thing product due to lots of positive reviews not just on Walmart, but other places on the internet. It took my husband two weekends to put it together because it was a large job. Overall it was easy to put together, pieces were labeled although some pieces were slightly damaged, it wasn't a big deal. Our two older children just love it and our baby will be playing in the near future!
