One thing I learned when using dry seasoning you don't use as a fresh. Before anyone adds salt they need to taste before adding salt. If you do not account for the added salt in your ingredients, you can end up with something you wouldn't eat. With that said, I tried this and once I added and tasted it, I added more and less of the salt. I plan on using it more. Found Inhad better control of the flavor profile using it.
This is the best substitute I've found for fresh basil, when it's out of season or if time is of the essence and you happen to be out of the fresh herb. It makes a pesto that's far closer to home-made than any commercially prepared product on the market, save from a good artisanal producer if you can find one. Since it has some salt just be sure to cut back somewhere else in the recipe.
My family tries really hard not to eat "out of boxes", but recently a few nights a week we just have to have something easier than normal. Monday nights have become spaghetti with jar sauce, and no jar sauce can cut it. I had ordered fresh basil in a delivery for caprese salad, but all the basil was out so this was supplied as a substitute. I was SO frustrated, until I decided to put a few tablespoons of this into the jar sauce. Now I refuse to be without at least two containers of this basil in the house at all times because it's SO much better than regular dried, plus it doesn't go moldy and soggy as quickly as fresh basil. I use this in every recipe that calls for basil, and it absolutely elevates any jar spaghetti sauce to the point where we can actually buy the cheaper spaghetti sauces and use this and Gourmet Garden garlic paste (we call it "jarlic") to make any sauce taste homemade from scratch.
Bought this at the store when they were all out of fresh basil and was pleasantly surprised by the quality and how long it lasted. Really recommend.
I like it is all chopped up and ready to go
I wasn't informed that this item was substituted. I really needed the fresh leaf basil, but didn't see the substitution until I got home, 30 miles away from the store. The other sustitutions were mentioned, but not the basil. I use the pick-up service regularly, and I've been generally pleased. I do know that the young man who brought out my groceries was in training, so I can over-look this mistake. I'll make due.
I used this product for my recipe.....almost ruined the whole meal......the salt content is all you taste..... the salt content overwhelms the entire flavor of the meal with salt to the point you can't eat what you made.....it's disgusting......1% sea salt.....which taste like you added 50% salt to your meal......horrible, horrible stuff .....never again .....returned it for a refund.....buyer beware......
the comtents would fit in a shot glass. not enough to flavor a 6 once jar of sauce
