A little over a year ago I purchase a Note 3 and instantly fell in love with it. I upgraded from a iPhone 4S so it was a significant jump in phone size. I added a 32GB SD card (something you can't do on any iPhone) and was really happy with the phone. I then had the opportunity to upgrade to the Note 5. I was a little skeptical because it doesn't have a spot to add an SD card, nor does it have a removable battery. As it turned out I never really used the extra space on my SD card like I thought I would so not having it wasn't really a big deal. Once I got the Note 5, I was impressed by how much faster it was. It really is the best version of the Note phones. The functionality is quick and precise. I truly love this phone and may never own another iPhone again. No need. This one does everything I need. I also recently got a Gear S2 watch. It works awesome with the Note 5. It's like having my phone on my wrist. So awesome!!! If there is a drawback to the phone, it is that it isn't as durable as I had hoped. I dropped the phone accidentally while in its case and it landed flat on its back. The display, while not cracked, was rendered pretty much useless over the course of a day. I did get my Note 5 replace and now have a better case for it. If you get a Note 5 get a durable case for it. It make a very large phone even bigger, but it may save you the headache of having to replace it if you accidentally drop it.
When I first got this phone I was greeted by an easy set-up guide on the phone. I entered my google account info and it logged me in and synced all my apps from previous devices on my phone. After doing so I started taking some pictures. I was absolutely blown away with the quality of the photos in both low light and high light conditions. The images turned out sharp and vibrant; they looked so good that I showed a friend the picture and he couldn't believe that it was taken with a phone! The camera is amazing and Samsung's double tap to open camera feature is quite useful as well. As a student I found this phone very helpful. In a great number of situations I found myself using this phone to help with school, such as: presentations, finals, essays, extra-curricular activities. The phones large display also makes multi-tasking a breeze so I can easily research topics while writing about them at the same time. The pen is also extremely useful, it has allowed me to take important notes about homework due dates, household tasks and upcoming tests. It is also great in making presentations as the pen is very precise. As a media consumer I much enjoyed the large display as it allowed for much better viewing experience. It was also an upside that the display used is an super Amoled which allows for beautiful colors and deep inky blacks. All together, this device is great for everyone, especially students!
I got to try out the Samsung Note 5 during the Samsung Test Drive Program. I have an iPhone 5c through work and the Note 5 blows it out of the water. The processor is fast, the screen is beautiful (although it "flickers" on video which the iPhone does NOT) and the stylus is awesome. It's just big enough without being too big. My wife got the Galaxy S6 and while that is a great phone, this is even better, especially with the stylus. I wish I could afford it, but I spent all my money on my wife's phone. Oh well.
I've had the Note 2, Note 4 and now the Note 5, and out of the three, the Note 5 is the best. The best new feature is Samsung Pay. The less I can carry around with me, the better. Samsung Pay eliminates the need to carry around a credit card in your wallet and it seems to be a very secure form of payment. I've always loved the size of the Notes and especially like the S Pen for jotting things down or drawing. The speed of apps and battery duration are both excellent on this phone. The camera takes beautiful pictures, so my phone has now replaced my Sony Cybershot camera for picture taking. This is the best cell phone I've ever owned.
I upgraded from the Note 3, which I really loved. However, the Note 5 is a far better phone than I could imagine. The new Side Sync app not only let me transfer all of my files, it also cleaned up all of my duplicates in my phone book automatically. And the quality of the camera is absolutely amazing. When I show people pictures I took with my phone, they think I took them with my very expensive camera. I'm still learning all it can do, but I couldn't be more pleased with it so far. Most of the time I leave my tablet home now because the Note 5 pretty much does everything I need it to. Kudos to Samsung for continuing to improve on all of their products.
The physical size of the Note 5 & iPhone 6+ are pretty much identical, but you get more screen space on the Note 5. I think the Note 5 has a brighter screen and to me looks a little sharper. The S-Pen is very handy to do quick diagrams right in the middle of a conversation to help describe something to a coworker/friend. The speed of the device is very good and I have not had any issues with performance at all. The biggest complaint I have it the inclusion of the extra apps / bloatware, but iPhones come with these apps too. At least on a Note 5 / Android you can remove it from your home-screens instead of having to create a "Junk" folder and have it take up space on your screen. ;-)
After owning the Galaxy Note 5 for several weeks, it has become clear to me that this device is without a doubt one of the best devices I've ever used. The battery, even though it is not removable, is quite able to carry my usage through an entire work day with time to spare. I am employed in the IT field and frequently I am doing several things at once where it is required to use the screen in full sunlight, outdoors. The screen at full brightness makes it easy for me to read without looking for a shady spot. I sure wish that my laptop computer display had the same amount of brightness and clarity! While I was never a user of a pen on a tablet before, it has become clear how valuable the S-Pen is. Jotting a note or the ability to quickly draw a small diagram and send that to someone, in a hurry, and it has become a fun thing to do! I'm sure there are other uses for the S-Pen - so I will be looking for some on-line tips, very soon. After a very recent vacation, I was browsing through some of the pictures I took. I was truly amazed at the resolution of the most simple of photographs. When I started to look at the different modes (slow motion, macro, etc.) that the camera can shoot images, I found some of the downloadable modes. Animated GIF? No Problem! Love the camera - Love the Samsung software! So, what are the downsides to owning the Galaxy Note 5? The sound. The speaker is small and singular. No stereo image if you are looking for great sound. However, it DOES point out of the bottom, so when I am on a phone call with speakerphone, I can slip the phone into my shirt pocket with the bottom end facing up and manage to hear VERY well. Sadly, if you turn the volume up too far, the callers voice can tend to crackle. The cost. The Galaxy Note 5 is rather expensive at the outset. I believe it was nearly twice the cost of the Galaxy S III when I purchased that phone. Larger screen, S-Pen, better camera, brighter display, 4 times the memory and a much faster processor. I'm not really suffering any 'Buyers remorse'.
Ever since I got my Note5 it seems like I can do anything I hear can be done via a wireless phone. And, the fact is, I still don't know everything I can do. I seem to learn something new every week. The Samsung+ support that comes with the phone shares new tips & tricks all the time and is my gateway to unknown. I seriously don't think I could ever settle for less in the future after this wonderful enriching experience
The Samsung Note 5 is a good phone but not great. I recently upgraded from a Samsung Note 3 to a Note 5. The 2 biggest reasons its not a great phone is that I cannot open up the back and replace the battery and the lack of the IR blaster that was on my previous Note 3. Its a good phone and I'm keeping it for the long haul but I wish Samsung would have kept the battery option to us and IR blaster intact.
I got my note 5 in the mail today. On top of the known changes I found out it required a smaller SIM card than my old note4 and s5 both used. Hoping it will get better reception than my note 4, it dropped calls ALL the time. I will try to update this after I get some more time on the phone.
