Great taste. I usually use table sugar for coffee, so this is my first time using coconut sugar. It does taste a little different than table sugar, but not overwhelmingly like coconut, which I sort of expected. I do like the way it tastes in coffee, since I don't use cream, but you probably wouldn't want to buy this to mix in koolaid-type drinks. It will definitely be great for baking this holiday season! The bag is also conveniently resealable. There is a lot online to read about this sweetener but, as with most sweeteners, the consensus seems to be to use it in moderation. Will be adding this to staple items to keep in the house.
Great Value Organic Coconut Sugar, 2 lbs has an awesome taste. I really like the flavor of Coconut so I have tried this sugar in several things. I tried it in my coffee first and it was a bit too much. My tea is more so bland so it gave a really nice hit of Coconut. I've used it in my homemade sugar cookies and it blended well, baked well and actually was better than the white sugar I normally use. I like that this is an Organic sugar and that when I put it in the right foods or drinks it adds to enhancing their flavor.
Trying to eat healthier and enjoyed the taste of coconut sugar as a substitute for regular sugar. Taste somewhat like mocha with bitter notes (taste is subjective) but maybe different to someone else. Price is okay but if you eat healthier, expect to pay more unfortunately. Mainly use for my coffee and also good for diabetics. Lastly, love how it's a finer grain of sugar.
I received this product from the Spark Reviewer program. This is some great sugar. You can replace it instead of regular sugar use this. It taste great and you can't tell the difference. It's better for you and isn't expensive. Very versatile. I can make anything with this sugar.
This Great Value Organic Coconut sugar is a great alternative to regular cane sugar. I was very excited to try it. I had heard if it but never tired it. I was surprised that it is dark like brown sugar but has a bit of a rougher texture. It's great for baking or really anything you would use regular sugar for. My husband has really enjoyed putting it in his coffee. It dissolved very quickly and mixed in well. I have really enjoyed using it in my baked dessert recipes. It doesnt take much different than regular sugar but I think it is better for you. It has worked well in cakes, brownies, and breads. The use for this coconut sugar are endless. It's a nice change. I love that the bag is a good size. It contains 2 pounds of coconut sugar and that will last me a long time. I love that the bag is resealable too which makes storage super easy. I would definitely purchase in the future and would recommend everyone give it a try. .
Granulated white sugar is 4 grams of carbs per 1 teaspoon serving. Brown sugar is 8 grams of carbs per 2 teaspoon serving. This coconut sugar is 9 grams of carbs per 2.5 teaspoon serving. Though they're all about the same in carb count, they're supposed to be different in how the body processes them. Coconut sugar is supposed to be a good alternative to “table” sugar because it gets processed in the body differently. The claims are that It has a lower glycemic index due to having health benefits of coconut - fiber, minerals and antioxidants. This means that it's supposed to not raise the glucose levels in your body so as to trigger insulin release, which is probably helpful for those watching out for that. Whether coconut sugar is a healthier alternative to “table” sugar versus other products on the market is an extremely personal and individual decision. Just because it works well for Sally down the street, doesn't mean it will work for you. For me, it didn't cause energy dips the way “table” sugar does. And that speaks to something. As for taste, this sugar is like a cross between white granulated and brown sugars with a slightly bigger bent towards brown sugar in texture and flavor. I've used it in baked goods and in drinks and it sweetened them without being syrupy sweet. It is not a strong sweet flavor like white sugar is, and it's not a deep sweet flavor like brown sugar. Instead, it's like a more gentler version of brown sugar. It's also not like “diet” sugar in that it has a funny aftertaste. I found that it changed the consistency of the batter of my baked goods but the final baked outcome came out delicious.
This smells stronger than coconut. I tasted some on my finger and it is a good flavor but has a bitter aftertaste. I felt the texture and it is very dry and gritty. It has the drier texture of white sugar but the stronger flavor of brown sugar. It is so dry, that it doesn't "pack" like brown sugar. It says you can use it in place of either sugar. I think it would be excellent in german chocolate cake or macaroons. I haven't been able to try it in much yet. But it is really good in mixed drinks like mojitos. Great for muddling mint leaves and for making simple syrup. This sugar would be ideal for carrot cake and anything that needs an offset of super sweet; like white chocolate raspberry cupcakes, etc. Good stuff to use in certain recipes but won't be replacing my white/brown sugar.
Organic coconut sugar is a natural alternative to sweeten my morning smoothie. Refined sugar has too many calories. I have always been nervous about the manufactured sweeteners in labs. The coconut sugar has the consistency of raw sugar. It is a color closer to brown sugar. The texture is grainy. I am not sure how it would work in morning coffee or tea. It seems to be perfect for smoothies which have the texture and pulps of my fruits and veggies.
The great value coconut sugar reminds me more of a powdery type than sugar. It is brown and smells very strongly. I personally can not switch from regular sugar because this is not close to even the same tastes.
The Great Value Organic Coconut Sugar comes in a two-pound resealable bag. The color of the sugar is similar to light brown sugar, but the texture is more like fine sand and nothing like granules found in regular sugar as expected. However, it is not a fine powder like that of confectioner's sugar, either. The taste leaves a lot to be desired. It is not as sweet as sugar and has a bit of a chemical-like aftertaste. I do like that the packaging comes with a few recipes on the back that I may consider trying, but I am not sure that I would use coconut sugar as a substitute in anything that is not cooked or baked (for example, I would not substitute coconut sugar for regular sugar in iced tea or homemade lemonade).
