Cuts great . I haven't used it enough to see how much it can cut before it needs a charge . Made quick work of brush pile of 2-4 inch branches . Best past don't have to mess with a choke and pulling starter 30 times !
This saw eats trees! I am so happy with the performance and how quiet it is. I cycle through three batteries and never have to stop. The only nitpicking "issue" is the string that holds the oil cap. It is too long/flimsy and is annoying to get back into the oil reservoir. My mother-in-law even took it for a spin and loved it!
Used the 18" Greenworks chainsaw to cut down an 18" cherry tree. Perhaps I was a bit optimistic but the saw worked very well. The chain lube system worked fine and the saw was certainly powerful enough. The only caveat I have is battery life. Cherry is a hard wood and I could only get about three or four cuts through the main trunk before the battery needed charging. Of course cutting branches it did a lot better and as I said I think I was overly optimistic with my project. The charging time is quick once the battery has cooled down enough to accept a charge. I certainly recommend the saw for most yard work and with a second battery life would have been a lot easier. The fact that it completed the work I think is amazing for a battery operated chainsaw. Just tried it for the first time, it works great! Cut through the base of a shrub with ease along with many limbs. I'm impressed... this is everything I was told and read about. For the average home owner this is a safe choice. I recommend purchasing a greenworks chainsaw.
I have only used it once so far, that being said, so far, so good!
I just received my Greenworks 80V battery powered 18-in. chainsaw the other day from Jet.com. I first want to mention that the item did take a little longer than expected to arrive at my home address (a little over a week). I called Jet.com to get a status update - since my order continued to be listed as "PROCESSING". The fellow, Jordan, that assisted me was very helpful and pleasant to deal with and (after making some calls to the shipper) assured me that my order was at the FedEx depot and would shortly be on it's way. *If you ever get a chance to call Jet.com, seriously the best part is being on hold on the phone because they have some pretty funny messages repeating. ;-) OK, now about the saw. It arrived well packed in it's original Greenworks box. All the items listed in the manual were included. Initially I thought they had forgotten the wrench for the saw, but it comes neatly tucked into the underside of the handle of the chainsaw. They should have had an arrow in their parts diagram showing where the wrench was located (rather than have to search through the entire manual to find out it's location). The big 80 Volt battery charges up quickly in the supplied charger - seemed to be less than 1/2 hour to get a full charge. It's simple to snap the battery into the saw and power the machine up. I loosened my chain a tad before putting the battery in since it felt a little too snug on the bar. After adding the supplied bottle of bar/chain oil and lubricating the chain I powered up the saw and started to cut up a few dead trees and branches that had fallen on my property over the winter. The saw cut quietly and smoothly and with a lot of power. I thought the saw might be too heavy to operate (since the battery is bulky) but it felt like the perfect weight and was quite easy to maneuver. This 18 inch saw is really great. I certainly recommend it to anyone looking for a gas alternative saw. (I would leave more comments but I maxed out this comment window) [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
I have no luck with small engines, they don't just start when I want them too. This saw push a button pull the trigger and cut away, I have cut down and cut up a few big trees already with no problem. Cuts thru 16" /18" pine trees like butter, recharge takes about 20 minutes, and then off to cutting again, very nice would recommend to anyone.
Although it is a bit heavy due to the battery I would normally give it 5 stars. My only concern is a worry about the future. I have had perfectly good cordless tools become useless because a few years after purchasing them the batteries go bad and the technology has changed and they no longer produce the battery or it becomes an expensive "special order." The same can happen with the charger. 5 or 10 years down the road will I be able to get batteries at a regular price. For comparison I have a small McCulloch 2 cycle saw that is 39 years old and still runsjust gas and oil. However, the Greenworks cordless cuts very well and the battery runs a long time. Very good product.
Bought this a couple of months ago and have used it twice. It cuts well but is really heavy with the battery. My gas chainsaw is lighter, which shocked me. It also leaks oil like crazy. It just runs out the cap and also I think it puts too much out for the chain. It also throws the chain constantly. I don't know why but just cutting some branches off a downed tree it would pop off. It did that 3 times while I was trying to trim a bunch of small branches of a dead pine tree.
Wassapointed 2nd time out. Just used this morninng for third attempt. 3 cuts. 1 16" and 2 8" cuts. And its dead on fesh charge. Tool falls out of slot in handle. Box had no packaging in it? Manual was stuck to packaging tape. Was this a return? Just charged again and got less cuts then my last with smaller part of tree. Nedd to see about reeturn i guess.
