I have a smallish house and the only place for an a/c is a sliding window. I had searched for an a/c like this one at Lowes and Home Depot and other places but they were around $500. This one was a fantastic price and works VERY well! Cools my livingroom, kitchen, bedrooms, and bathroom! My husband had very little trouble installing it although the instructions were a little hard to understand. I LOVE the little remote that comes with it!!! I would totally recommend this to anyone!!!
I was having difficulty sleeping because I was so hot. I bought the window unit because a neighbor had also purchased it. It keeps my room plenty cool at night, and is actually strong enough to cool the rest of my condo as well. Great price, great product!
This is a good product, and fits ! The remote control is nice, but not really needed. All hardware was included, and the only thing that I had to add was a block of wood to protect the home siding. We tested the AC, and it was like ice ! Sure will be nice to use at night, during the short, but hot summer at the lake.
I have marveled at this machine, it's power and quiet operation from the time it was plugged in over 10 years ago. This unit has performed without fail in a loft far too big for it's size. •It has run 24/7 in Vancouver Canada. My artist live/work loft is industrial with 14' ceiling and is ALWAYS hot. I have never used the heat hear even in the coldest winters. •The interior hot water pipes are exposed & contribute to the temp. The building has flat sides, no eves and only two small windows open out of a wall that is glass from the ceiling to 4' about the floor. I face south and we are in a DUSTY heat basin. It was only removed and cleaned for the first time last year!! It operated through rainstorms and the like. Sadly the unit must now be replaced. IT OWES ME NOTHING and will be difficult to replace. I wish to stay with HAIER because of the quality so will have to go to a portable. All things change but I wish this was still made. xoxo :)
I bought this unit a couple weeks ago when the temperature here was over 100 degrees. It cooled the living area very quickly. I had an older unit that was very loud and constantly ran. This unit is really quiet and turns off when it hits the correct temperature.
cools great but hard to install-does not fit dual paned vertical windows well and is difficult to fit into vertical sliding windows of over 40 inches. one has to buy more weatherstripping and a larger piece to fill the gap (we used plexiglass)
Initial installation for casements is tough. Once you have the window templates, reinstallation is easy. Instructions gave wrong width measurement, which caused me to install the unit twice. It runs very quietly and has good fan coverage for our situation. On the heavy side but it is 10,000 BTUs.
Pros: surprisingly quiet, cools very well (a very large bedroom), fits our narrow window, remote control, a good product for its price range. Cons: included installation kit feels unstable. I added other support. Packaging is minimal - front panel arrived with cracks from shipping. Power cord is not long enough. Other details: The look and feel of plastic front is OK but not great. I added support using two large L-shape shelf supports on the outside of the wall. The window kit did not fit my window so I ended up spending several hours to cut and fit a plastic plate (of the kind used for sun windows) to seal the window. It works very well and my wife is happy! :-)
I guess there must be many more double hung windows (that accept horizontal A/C's) than slider/casement windows (that require vertical A/C's) because there are very few choices for vertical units and they are much higher in cost for the same BTU's. The Haier 10,000 BTU unit I purchased was reasonably priced compared to other vertical units but about double the cost of a comparable horizontal unit. The information online and in the manual which comes with the unit leads you to believe installation is easy. This is not so. The included instructions are unclear and if you follow the directions you would end up with holes in your window frame and a bolt (not a screw) to brace the shelf on the outside that will chip off your stucco. I had to hire a contractor to help install the unit and we jury rigged the parts provided with our own L braces and wood blocks to make it work. Once installed, the unit seems to run satisfactorily and does cool the room. However, you should be aware of several other things. First, the direction control levers are just cheap, flimsy plastic pieces that are turned by hand to direct the cool air, but they are inefficient and do not stay in place. Make sure to install the unit where the direction you want the air to blow is straight ahead. Second, when the unit cycles off cooling it makes a very loud bang noise like someone hit the side of the house with a baseball bat. Lastly, you should have a dedicated circuit for the unit. If you run the unit with any other electrical devices on the same 15 amp circuit, it will trip off. I had to run long extension cords to another room in order to operate my computer and the Haier A/C at the same time. I gave the Haier 3 stars and a recommend only because it is probably no better or worse than the limited number of other comparable products. Next time I might think about replacing the window with a double hung instead of buying another vertical air conditioner.
Purchased one unit early June-easy install and worked fairly well; able to cool a 20' by 18' room even w/ temps above 100. I had to purchase a 2nd unit 2 weeks later as walmart. com shipped incorrect original ordered A/C. The 2nd identical Vertical did not work as well as the first. It was much louder and could not lower the temperature in a smaller 18' by 12' room. Both units are installed in same size windows and same type install. The 2nd A/C unit throws cold air a few feet but will not cool the room and many times temperature actually rises while A/C is running @ full output. I would not recommend this A/C as it is nothing more than a very expensive fan. I will return it to my local walmart.
