I have always wanted one of these gates with 5 children and pets I almost never have a free hand to open our old baby gate which wasn't always easy to open. I love that this gate installed easily and makes needing to walk through it so easy. I also like that my 3 older children can open this if need be without having to wait for me to empty my hands just so they can go through into the kitchen. I also liked that it was easy enough for me to install without the hassle of hardware like so many other gates. The only thing I wish is that the gate was a little taller to keep larger animals from jumping it. Other than that I love this gate and will continue to use it until my littlest one is able to walk and go through on their own.
The Hands Free Walk Through Gate is a nice looking gate (and since its white and matches my trim color that was another plus for me) . I use this gate as a pet gate as we have dogs that often need to be kept out of certain rooms or areas. The pressure mount assembly (no hardware required) is nice because it only takes a couple of minutes to put up and can be moved easily. With adjustment from 30-41” it fits any of the doorways in my home (and it comes with an extension panel which I didn't need). The gate also swings open in both directions which is a nice feature that many gates don't have. It does take a lot of force to step down enough on the pedal to open it, which is fine for adults( and would obviously prevent babies from opening.) The gate also comes with 4 wall cups (I showed the cups in my initial photo in case anyone wanted to see how it looks with them which you really don't notice) that explains in installation instructions that their use “will affix your gate more firmly in the doorway” and is required if you will be using at the top of stairs. Since, I will be moving this gate around as needed (The cups require being screwed to the wall) I chose not to use them, but it is nice to have included if desired later. All in all, the Regalo Hands Free Gate is a great pet gate for me and it is so reasonably priced that I plan to get another one.
I love this hands free safety gate but you can also use your hands to open it, if needed. When I first got it and pulled it out of the box, it really is simple and easy to put together and use but I had a problem with the round ends and I just wasn't getting it at first, but I figured it out. It has the extra gate extension if you need it. You just take the extra extended gate and put it in the holes on the side of the baby gate. There's no tools required for this. None that I used, even though it did come with screws. I think that is to hold your round gray circle part that connects to the wall, I think that's what the screws are for but I didn't have to use them because I will be using this gate throughout the house and even when it starts to cool down outside, I will use it at my front or back door. I'm looking at it right now and I actually put it on upside down, the extension part of the gate but it's still working for my purpose right now which is to keep my dog, Max out of the rest of the house. Make sure you put it on the right way. I'm not going to have a problem with it right now, but like I said I just noticed it and I am going to correct it and flip it over. I just wanted to let you know too. I'm using the extension part of the gate on mine, because I did need to add it to the gate. You can open it by foot at the bottom, in either direction or you can open it by hand with the two little gray round buttons at the top. There's one grey bottom on each side of the gate. You just push the buttons, slide it back and the gate opens in either direction. I've posted a video on here to show you and I've added a couple pictures too. This will definitely come in handy when I babysit also. I know it is for a baby, but it also comes in handy for pets too. I highly recommend this product. It works great and like I said very easy to put together. Thank you Walmart Spark Reviewer for letting me test this product out! It is a great baby gate!
What I love most about this baby gate is that it swings BOTH ways. The gate I had before didn't do that. You don't realize how handy that feature is until you have it, and now I will probably never switch back to a gate that swings only one way. I'm tall, at around 5'9 and I find this gate to be a little short for my comfort, but it is not too short that I would give it negative stars. It's the perfect height for my children. My 6 year old can open the gate on his own with just a little difficulty. It takes practice for a child to learn. My young daughter, who is 3, cannot open the gate; and that is exactly what I prefer. I don't mind the 6 year old to come and go as he wishes because the gate is for my younger child. There is also a foot release to open the gate, too, if your hands are full. I find it a bit awkward, honestly. I think using the foot release will take practice. There is an attachment that can be removed which makes the gate wider. I don't need that attachment, so I stored it in a closet. Also, there are these little bracket things that you can screw into the wall that fits the pressure mounted braces perfectly. It will prevent the gate from sliding off the wall. Again, I didn't use those permanent brackets, but knowing I can is very handy. I find it a very strong safety feature for kids who tend to climb. There will be no fear of the gate falling if they climb it. I don't have any dogs, but I do have a cat. He finds no problem jumping over the gate. I wouldn't recommend this gate for a cat. All in all, I definitely recommend this gate. I would not hesitate to get another.
I absolutely love this Regalo Hands-Free Safety Gate it is so convenient and practical not to mention sturdy and very well made. We have 2 doorways in our living room one that leads to the stairs and one that leads to the kitchen. We purchased a gate about a year ago when my now 1 1/2 year old first started crawling and becoming mobile for the stairway so he was not climbing up the stairs and that gate is great although it doesn't have the hands free feature which I love but it does the job. My 1 1/2 year old however has just recently started exploring in the kitchen and so we needed something to block that doorway off as he opened the fridge one day and grabbed the ranch dressing out and oh boy what a mess he made. We also are expecting our daughter in December so it just made since to get another gate. This one sounded awesome especially since it has the hands free feature which is something I have never seen before in a gate so I was a little iffy on whether that feature would actually work or not but it does and it is so easy to get the hang of. There is a dual sided foot petal so it can be opened with your foot on either side of the gate all you do is put your foot on it and press down and it opens right up. There is a safety feature to the foot petal so little ones can not figure out how to open it as there is 2 petals on it one over the top of the main one and you have to make sure you put your foot on both and press down otherwise it will not open which I like even my 10 year old son could not figure out how to open it with the foot petal. That is going to be so convenient when I have a toddler and a newborn to chase around and my hands are full. The gate also has the traditional latch at the top if you prefer just using your hand but once you get the hang of the foot petal you probably will not want to use your hands anymore as it seems to open so much easier with the foot petal. This is a sturdy gate made of metal that stands about 32 inches tall. This also works for doorways that measure about 30-41 inches wide. Our doorway is 36 1/2" wide and this fits perfectly. I love that is has the pressure mount system so it doesn't damage the walls or in our case trim of our doorway and it stays put there is no slack or anything like that. I only wish I would have known there was a hands free gate out there when I purchased the first gate as I would have purchase this instead as that is just such a cool and unique feature that I have never seen in a baby gate before. I think Regalo did an amazing job designing this gate and making it convenient and durable as I can see it lasting for years to come.
The best thing about this gate is how professional it looks. I previously used wood gates, which after being gnawed and colored on, never looked the same. This gate being metal has made it completely kid proof and it still looks nice. It is very heavy though. This gate is super easy to install. All you have to do is put it in place and screw the little caps until it's firm. It seems to be high quality and sturdy and it does not scratch the paint on the walls when you put it up. There are only two features I feel could be improved, one is that the opening is a bit narrow. I fit through fine, but sometimes with arms full of laundry, it's harder to gauge where you're stepping and I've ran into the sides or tripped over the bottom piece that's attached. To open the gate using only your foot is easy to use, except when I was wearing tennis shoes, since they are a little bulkier. Flats or barefoot though was a cinch. The hand portion is easy enough to get it open with only one hand as well. The older kids have no problems getting it open and closed either. Compared to other baby gates I've used, this one is easier to install, looks a lot nicer, and serves its purpose well.
I just received the Hands Free Walk Through Gate in the mail last week and have been trying it out for a week now. I think this gate is ok, it is not the best gate I have ever owned and it is certainly not the worst gate. Some cons for me are you have to step on the foot pedal really hard to open the gate and while that may be a good thing for some people, to me it is not. I am currently using this gate to keep a dog out of the kid's playroom. My 6 year old can open the top part after a bit of a struggle which I guess is a good thing if you are using this to keep kids in/out. Some pros for this gate are it is a lot more stylish compared to the older plain brown wooden gates. I like the fact that it comes with an extender so it can fit a lot of doorways and stairwells. I also like that the gate comes with wall protectors on the part of the gate that actually touches the wall so you don't mess up your wall/paint. Bottom line…I would get this gate again but I hope they can make a few changes to it.
I used this gate at the top of our stairs to keep my very mobile and adventurous 10-month old from taking a tumble. Assembly and installation were both very easy and straightforward. I opted to not use the wall cups, since the fit seemed tight enough without them. At first, I tightened the mounts too much and wasn't able to open the gate, but after loosening just a bit, I was able to open and close it just fine. I like that the latch is double-sided so the gate can be opened easily from either direction. However, I find the foot latch for the hands-free function to be useless. With the amount of time it takes to place your foot perfectly on the pedal/lever, and then press down with all of your body weight, it's just easier and quicker to open the top latch with your hand. It also swings open really quickly, due to the pressure you have to apply to open it, and has a tendency to hit the wall. Using this foot function is also awkward and seems unsteady when using the gate at the top of the stairs. I do like that the gate can stay open on its own. This is convenient for times when the baby isn't around and I can run up and down the stairs without having to stop to open/close the gate. (I have another gate at the top of another set of stairs in my home that closes automatically, so we have to prop it open when the baby isn't around, which can really be obnoxious at times.) Overall, I'm happy with this gate. The bar across the bottom is definitely a tripping hazard, so you have to be careful if using this at the top of stairs, like we are, and the construction seems a bit cheap (I don't expect this gate to have a long life), but it serves its purpose and has really helped ease my mind when the baby is on the loose upstairs!
Overall, I really like this gate. I didn't pay that close of attention to the measurements, so when I received the gate – I was surprised to find that it was too big for the doorway I wanted to use it in. However, I easily found another doorway option to use and it fit great. It was very easy to set up and I love that I didn't have to use any hardware to attach it to the wall. I love that you have multiple ways of being able to open the gate. I like that if you use the latch with your hands, that you have to push the buttons and slide the lever to get it to open – which makes the 2-step process a bit too complicated for my children to figure out how to open. I also love the foot lever as an option for opening the gate! That's a very unique feature and I found it really easy to use. I also like that I can just gently push the gate and it latches by itself (if I've pushed it hard enough) – very convenient! I am so pleased with the features of this gate and how well-built it is, and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable, sturdy, easy-to-use gate!
I really wanted to like this gate, I really did but it did not turn out that way. This gate is really sturdy and very well made and you do not have to worry about damage to your door frames or walls because the pressure mount is really very well designed and it is an easy install but these three things are the only good things I can say about this gate. The opening mechanism for this gate requires that you push in the button and slide back at the same time, it is pretty hard to do, impossible for little hands and difficult for an adult to open. There is a lot of tension needed to slide back so it gets a bit frustrating, I felt like I was fighting with this gate to open and I had to stop and put stuff down and open it with both hands. What's the problem with this? If its that difficult for an adult to open I don't want my kids on the other side of that in case of an emergency. Secondly, the hands free foot pedal did not work for me. It is designed to for you to move the pedal forward and then gently place your foot on it and depress it down which in turn causes the gate to slide down and become unhinged thus opening. This was a disaster for me, I keep pushing down on it and it would not open I finally had to stand on it to get it to slide the gate down which unfortunately, caused the gate to become unhinged from the wall. Finally, the locking mechanism was so loud that it woke my son up out of a sound sleep at 8 p.m. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this gate, mom's lives are busy enough we DO NOT need to fight the baby gate.
