Assembly and knowledge of operation required some reading of the provided manuals. Assembly took about 1/2 hour, and battery required charging before use. Installation of the front handle took some force, about 15 lbs to snap in; keep fingers clear. It was difficult to slide the handle up and down the shaft for adjustment. Manuals were available online in PDF format for paperless documentation. Lacks an edge guide, not needed for edging but would be helpful if that were an option. Weight about 5 pounds. If string is half inch or more too long, the cutter will not cut the string, so it has to be snipped off first; then the head will spin fast enough to cut the string. It has both a 12 and 10 inch setting. The default 12 inch is adequate for trimming. The 10 inch setting might be used for thicker cutting, since the head would spin faster. The string is automatically advanced when trigger is pulled, so it is required to run the unit full speed until more string is needed. This is a nice feature, since it is not necessary to bang the head for string advancement. Overall the unit works as advertised.
I have a small yard so this was an interesting tool to work with. I have used other edgers and trimmers but none that were cord free. so that was a great plus right out of the box. It's fairly lightweight about 6 and 1/2 lb and pretty easy to handle. It's nice that you can swivel the handle in order to change the angle of the trimmer. I've only used once but it was a lot of fun it made me want to go look for things to trim and Edge! LOL
This trimmer has been used twice in my yard in the past week. My hubby put it together easily in about 10 minutes and he let me loose. As a small 5 ft tall female I found this trimmer lightweight and easy to maneuver. I have landscape rock and edging, paved sidewalks, and even some chain link fencing and this trimmer zipped around everything without stalls or missed areas. I was worried about loss of power but it took me about 35 minutes to complete all the trimming and I never lost the charge or ability to trim. It was a snap to hose off and store and the battery recharges quickly so it’ll be ready to go for my next trim job. The length of the trimmer is adjustable so I can’t speak to the comfort of use for someone a lot taller than me but for me it was great, in fact the easiest trimmer of any power type I’ve ever used.
This HART weedeater is great . It has a powerful 20 volt battery or you can plug in your extension cord and run it on your house current. The battery is set up to use the same one on their other products. The shaft is straight so that you can get under your shrubbery better . Also the shaft is adjustable for the length. It is well balanced and not heavy as a gas powered unit . You can do the edging around your driveway . It uses. 065 string. It's a nice weedeater .
I was given the Hart 20-Volt Cordless Hybrid 12-inch String Trimmer as a member of Walmart's Spark Review Team to test and review. I have owned one cordless electric trimmer and have had a not so good experience with it and i was skeptical when i received this one. When it arrived i read the features on the box and saw right away this was nothing like the one i had. This one is packed with features. The first is it is a hybrid which means you can attach an extension cord or use the 20 volt Lithium battery. I do not like having to use an extension cord as my house only has two electric plugs outside and sits on two acres and its says on box a 16 gauge 100 foot cord is the maximum so that would not work for me but it would work great for someone with a smaller yard and in most subdivisions. This trimmer also has a telescoping shaft that can be extended or shortened for ease of use and the shaft rotates allowing you to easily turn the trimmer into an edger. It has an auto feed head that advances the line 1/4 inch each time the trigger is pulled and has an adjustable cutting path from 12 inches to 10 inches and this a done by removing the attaching screw at the line cutter and turning it 90 degrees and retightening the screw. It handles .065 line which is installed from the factory and comes with an extra spool with line for fast changing. The battery is a fade free compact and lightweight 2.0ah Lithium Ion 20 volt and comes with a fast charger. The battery also fits many other tools that Hart makes. As for power this thing will easily plow through grass much thicker than i would have thought possible and i did not have to stop to unwrap grass from the head. It is smooth, well balanced and lightweight and the battery was still going strong when the trimming was complete and that is important. My wife says she loves this trimmer and does not mind trimming where the lawnmower cannot cut and that makes it a great buy.
I really like this Hart 20-Volt cordless Hybrid 12" string trimmer. My husband does most of the trimming in the yard because our gas trimmer is to heavy for me. So I was excited to get this battery operated trimmer. It's light weight and easy to use for even me. I enjoy doing yard work and am glad I can finally help out with the trimming now. You can use with the battery or it can be plugged in. I prefer the battery so I can move around the yard and not worry how far cord will reach. The shaft is adjustable for length, nice for short people like me. So far I haven't been disappointed.
I never knew a hybrid trimmer existed until I found this Hart trimmer. Overall seems like a fine unit. Has a telescoping handle and can be twisted for trimming or edging. Battery pack is simple to use and takes about an hour for the initial charge.... The 120V cord setup is also nice for those times your battery didn't finish the job. Simply take out the battery, slide a small panel and plug in your cord. This is really a slick trimmer.
My first impression is that it appears to be well-built. The battery took about 1 hr 15 mins to charge. The spring-loaded, telescopic height adjustment was quick and easy. Based upon my previous experiences with Lithium-powered line trimmers (this is my third) I immediately adjusted the line length to the shorter setting. The revolving head was OK for setting it for edging, however I thought that simply turning the handle around on my "other" line trimmers was fine and perhaps even easier. Time will tell. For edging, it worked much faster and more easily than my other trimmers. While trimming around the flower beds etc. the line broke several times. The auto-line-feed worked perfectly--turning it on and off twice extended the line about 1 inch. The safety interlock switch is much easier to engage than on many tools I've used (see photo). On my other trimmers it was a bit awkward and took some thought just to turn it on. I also trimmed an area about 10' X 50' of dry weeds and the line did not break. Normally I would keep starting and stopping to save battery power, however with the Hart trimmer I kept it going almost the whole time otherwise it would keep extending and cutting the line about 1/2" each time. The battery held up just fine, much better than on my other trimmers, even when the battery was new. It only took about 25-30 minutes to re-charge the battery so I'm guessing I used about 1/2 of the battery power that was available. I had been re-winding my spool using .080 line and will probably continue to do so with the Hart (I have a 400 yard spool of .080). This may help reduce line breakage however it might also reduce the run time somewhat. I tried it out with a AC cord and was happy to see that a cord-wrap was included. It did, however, come unplugged a few times until I finally arrived at a cord configuration that seemed to work (see photo). There was noticeably more power with the AC cord. The battery wore out on my other line trimmer and a replacement is no longer available so it is useless. With the Hart trimmer, if that ever happened it could still be used! This feature is also great if you have a very large area to trim. I like my new Hart Line Trimmer so much that I'm considering buying some of their other tools, such as a drill (for starters). Many of their tools come with a battery so it can never hurt to have an extra. I would not be too surprised to see professional gardeners using this line trimmer--I can't count the times I've seen and heard them trying to start their two-stroke trimmers. I don't think battery-powered trimmers are quite ready to replace gas-powered, but it looks like they are getting closer. Before using the Hart I would have said that battery-powered trimmers were only suited to "small" yards, but this one looks like it could probably handle a "medium-size" yard, but of course that is speculation. Unfortunately I can only upload two photos so the picture of the on/off switch is of my old trimmer.
I had to have my husband help with initially setting it up as I had no knowledge of weed eaters as they were always to heavy due to having back problems. This is light weight and handles easily. The battery charged quickly and you also have the option of using electric which makes it versatile for a larger yard. The telescopic handle is ideal for being short as most are geared only for taller individuals. We both used it and were pleased with the results. I especially recommend for women who need the lighter weight. The plus is that is really cute.
The HART 20-Volt Cordless Hybrid 12-inch String Trimmer/Edger Kit (1) 2.0Ah battery is a nice versatile tool that has a place in every homeowners tool shed. There are a list of pros, such as the ability to use cordless or, when the battery drains, you can just plug it in. I also like the mechanism for switching g between cutting and edging. The cons are a short list with the biggest concern being that the whole weed eater is unbalanced, being heavy at the head making it difficult to use. The cutting line feeds too quickly and is brittle, maybe some better options there. The battery life is low, lasting at best 20 minutes. If you have a small yard or project, this trimmer would be ideal,. Just don't plan on doing large projects.
