The ball was purchased for a small indoor basketball hoop that hooks on the door. My boys usually use a hard rubber ball that made a lot of noise, not to mention damage to walls and doors. I bought this foam ball and thought it's great, it's too big for the hoop. The ball bounces like a regualar ball and it will bounce on the carpet. It's great for indoor throwing and when kids are stuck indoors because it makes no noise when they bounce it. It does leave a little bit of yellow "lint" everywhere when we first got it.
