This is a very tasty pie, considering it is not homemade. Discovered it requires longer baking time than indicated on the box. After the first pie I tried did not turn out well because the filling was still "liquidy", I tried again. The next pie, baked for about 1 hour, then covered the pie edges with foil and cooked about another 20-25 min. at 350 degrees. Probably could have baked at higher temp. for a shorter time. This is about the length of time I bake homemade sweet potato pie. 2nd pie turned out well. This was around Thanksgiving. Have not been able to find in the local Walmart recently.
I am from the south, Florida, and sweet potato pie is a favorite dish down there throughout the year. There are many variations of this wonderful desert... but this is not one of them. I purchased a pie just to see how close Sara Lee would come to "real" sweet potato pie taste... not even close. This product taste like a lab project gone wrong. No real sweet potato pie consistency and the spices were terrible. If you want a really good southern sweet potato pie... take the time to bake one. It is very easy and simple with the right ingredients.
The "other" pies are good BUT this one "THUMBS DOWN!" For the price I though ok I'll try it. After baking and removing out of the oven the filling was moving around and I thought "hmm" REAL potato pie doesn't do that. I told my Mom I'm scared to eat it. I tried a small slice -ok. The next day -today- the filling is like MUSHY Baby food. It's not thick & firm like a "REAL SWEET POTATO PIE." I'm tossing it! Now a days you never know what all is included in those BIG WORDS in the ingredients. The next Sweet Potato Pie I eat will be "HOME MADE." Ijs
