The laptop can run most major games smoothly above 60FPS at medium or high setting and here are some result of games running with max or ultra setting at 1080p: Battle field V / 50-60 ultra Fortnite / 120 high CSGO / 120 high PUBG / 80-90 high Final Fantasy XIV and XV / 60-70 high GTA V / 120 fps Pros: - Great bright, vivid colored IPS display with good viewing angle - Comfortable keyboard with great travel distance - Green backlit keyboard - Bang and Olufsen audio - 1080P gaming at 50-60 FPS - Memory and HDD can be easily upgraded - Less than 5lbs - Low price Cons: - No SSD (but the price will be $200-$300 more if it's a 1TB SSD) - No optical drive (but who needs one nowadays?) - Fingerprint smudges show up very easily on the cover In conclusion, I will surely recommend this laptop to my friends, gamer or non-gamer. The overall performance is over what you expect on a $900 laptop. I really like the green ambien lighting and this laptop is going to last me a while and can be even longer if I replace the HDD with a SSD in the future.
This gaming Laptop comes in a large 15.6″ 1080p Full HD IPS display, i7-8750H 8gen cpu, GTX 1060 3gb, 8gb DDR4 ram, 1TB HHD with 16gb of optane memory...some really decent specs for competitive gaming. Design: Black Chassis with shinny dark green HP logo with 4 matching green rubber legs on the bottom. Slim bezel IPS panel maximized screen space in a smaller case. Standard keyboard and numpad, backlit with green LED, brushed aluminum keyboard deck adds durability and keep fingerprints off sight and look more higher grade. Bang and Olufsen speaker grille above the keyboard and they sound crispier and louder than expected. A bit thinner than my taste but it's better than most of the laptops on the market. Screen and keyboard: IPS panel in general provides great color and viewing angle but not bright enough. The IPS panel on this laptop is so bright that i'm playing on 70% brightness only the whole time. Image is clear, sharp and bright on browsing web or games. I tested some games with great pictures and decent FPS. Connectivity: There's 2x USB 3.0 port, HDD indicator and a SD card reader on the left side. 1x 3.5 audio jack, ethernet port, 1x HDMI port, 1x USB 3.0, 1x USC-C port and power connector on the right. More than what I need and expansion proved when you need connectivity. Performance: The laptop can run most major games smoothly above 60FPS at medium or high setting and here are some result of games running with max or ultra setting at 1080p: Battle field V / 50-60 ultra Fortnite / 120 high CSGO / 120 high PUBG / 80-90 high Final Fantasy XIV and XV / 60-70 high GTA V / 120 fps The downside is it only comes with a 1TB 7200rpm HDD but HP added 16gb Optane memory which boost the boot time, faster application and game launch time. Laptop takes only 5-10 sec to boot into window from off which is almost identical to a SSD drive. Speed and storage can be upgraded easily by replacing the HDD with a SSD and the optane memory with M.2 drive. All you need is 6 screws off the bottom cover. HP stated 8 hours of juice but I get about 5-6 hours on the web and youtube video which is decent. However, when it comes to gaming, it will be done in 2 hours but .. who will game without a charger? Conclusion: Pros: - Great bright, vivid colored IPS display with good viewing angle - Comfortable keyboard with great travel distance - Green backlit keyboard - Bang and Olufsen audio - 1080P gaming at 50-60 FPS - Memory and HDD can be easily upgraded - Less than 5lbs - Low price Cons: - No SSD (but the price will be $200-$300 more if it's a 1TB SSD) - No optical drive (but who needs one nowadays?) - Fingerprint smudges show up very easily on the cover In conclusion, I will surely recommend this laptop to my friends, gamer or non-gamer. I don't know the technical stuff about gaming or laptops. I just know that it was easy to set up with my Microsoft and Google accounts. It plays Overwatch, WoW, and Hearthstone without a problem. Great Black Friday buy.
My criteria for a descent laptop for basic needs (Web browsing, office use, and occasional music, video, games) is: - A good brand: I only trust 2 brands and one of them is HP - Be sure to buy insurance, it's worth it, some websites provide 4 years - Intel i5 or i7: Be sure to check CPU benchmark websites to choose a good model(the higher the number, the better to ensure that it's competitive against new coming CPU to avoid to buy another laptop after few years), this model i7-8750 has a benchmark of 12458 which is excellent, I suggest not to get too low CPU mark which aren't as good as i5/i7 and newer i9 are still expensive - Minimum 8GB memory SDRAM - 128GB minimum SSD HDD (very fast) if possible otherwise 1TB SATA HDD (slower but can store much more than SSD) - Any audio device nowadays is descent enough - Wireless should have “ac” standard because they are very fast - Bluetooth is a must but it should be standard for laptops nowadays - For gamers, a GeForce GTX 10 Series with 2GB minimum, otherwise for non-gamers any “dedicated” graphic card is good enough (avoid integrated, they share SDRAM memory thus you have way less available SDRAM memory than you are supposed to have) - Windows 10 for better compatibility with most existing software, variety of software choices and for beginners - Lit keyboard is optional for dark environment as well as touchscreen is just a plus but not a necessity I'm very picky about choosing a computer and I can definitely tell that this laptop is very good and is a perfect match, it even exceeds all the needs of anyone who want a fair computer that last for a long time The only downside is it's just a little heavy but compared to old laptops, it's similar or lighter
The build is good, the green accent, if you like it, is premium looking and the performance is good out of the box. Played GTA 5 and Watch Dogs 2 on it, performed pretty well, although got a little worked up there for Watched Dogs 2. Everything else is great, the screen has a reasonable contrast ratio, I wish the RAM was more and it had SSD, but those things you can add for $100 or so. The POWER BUTTON... It is too meek and fragile, I am not sure how many cycles of power on will it survive. Also the speakers are not premium for sure. If you want to use the speakers, use them in a very silent room. That alone is sufficient for lowering the star rating. Otherwise the bootup time is good if McAfee doesn't start acting up. After the first month you have an option to let the McAfee go too. Overall a good deal.
This computer has been great! It was easy to set up. The charging cord is huge but since it's such a powerful computer that is to be expected. Also since it is so powerful this computer is pretty heavy and would be a pain to travel with. The screen is huge and bright and I love the green backlight on the keyboard.
I purchased this laptop about 2 months ago. The first one I got, kept blue screen erroring out. I spent 3 days going back and forth with tech support, repeating the same steps, and eventually returned it. The one I have now, runs pretty fantastic, BUT the keyboard is back over green backlighting and the black is already wearing off of the keys and it's $379.99 for them to replace them. Unless they are popping off, it's not their fault. I am NOT paying that much, after 2 months of having it, and paying $1000 the first time, I'm not spending that every couple months just to read my keyboard. I'll get an external one for HALF that that works 3 times as well. The HP support team was 0 help both times I had issues.
I bought his computer almost a year ago and was really exited because this would be my first laptop. It was within my budget(if on the more expensive end) and was supposed to be a good gaming laptop. The problem was, it doesn't work for gaming. It glitched and crashed whenever I played Skyrim, Portal, the stably parable, anything! Then a few months after buying it, the screen broke and became a rainbow of pixels. No problem I had the warranty. But Walmart didn't cover the damage done to my computer because I must have dropped it or shut it with a pen on the keyboard. I didn't. They said I could get it fixed for $800. After a bit I talked them down to $500. Eventually I found a repair company that did it for $250. Then the audio stopped working and a few months after that, the computer stopped turning on. The motherboard had to be reset and the charger stopped working. Save your money, I got this because it was within my budget but I ended up paying almost 1.5k on this barely functioning computer. And I still haven't gotten the audio fixed
Good computer, but i just had it crap out on me maybe a month or 2 ago because of the really really crappy battery. If it wasn't for the battery the mobo wouldn't have died and it would still be running like a champ. Had it since Nov 2018
Don't buy!! I got one and two weeks later the screen goes black and doesn't come back on. Then I exchanged it for a new one and it did the same thing, but this time it brought up the error screen. The error was Driver Power State Failure. Keep in mind this is new.
