I purchased this printer several months ago and I found it to be one of the most feature packed, yet affordable wide carriage printers on the market. It prints quickly, quietly, and very clearly, and has never had a problem since it was put into service. It installed easily into our existing office network and is used daily to print special, over-sized projects. I would recommend this printer to anyone in a home or small office setting who's looking for a feature-packed printer at a reasonable price.
My wife and I visited Alaska last summer and purchaed our first digital camera. At the fishing camp we met an avid photogapher and he suggested getting a large format printer instead of a standard 8.5 x 11. When I called HP about the model he suggested it was no longer in production and the salesperson reccommended the Deskjet 9800. It is just wonderful. We have used it to its maximum capacity of 11 x 17 and friends and family have been amazed at the quality. I have only one word of caution - make sure that you leave your large prints to dry at least three days before you frame them. In short were are very pleased with the 9800.
I am very well impressed with this machine. The paper handling, which has always been an issue with me in the past, is the best of any large-format printer I've used. The print quality is excellent and performance is top notch. I've been very happy with this printer in every respect.
This is a compact larger-format printer that's good for designers, artists and engineers. It would also be useful for anyone printing anything big or complex that is easier to understand on a single page of paper. It takes up about 2' x 2' of my desk space and I typically use it to print documents and network drawings. It's reasonably quiet and is fast for an ink jet. I generally send big jobs to a nearby laser printer but will print up to 50 page jobs on this machine. I sometimes print E sized drawings on B sized paper with the "Fit to one page" option. In "Best" mode the drawings are quite usable if your eyes or glasses are good enough. I've printed one photo on photopaper out of curiosity and it was satisfactory. This 9800 has printed about 4000 pages in 14 months and a little more than 10% of that has been 11 x 17 tabloid size. In the process it has consumed two large, 21 ml, black cartridges and three regular, 7 ml, tri-color cartridges. Which I think is decent. Obviously I'm not changing cartridges very often considering how much printing I do. There are a lot of good features in my opinion. For example, even through there's only one paper tray, it's easy to switch between paper sizes. Also, I don't have a duplexer but still print any long document double-sided. Once you figure out how to do that, it's easy - just make sure you can reach the printer from your chair. It was easy to set up. I haven't had any probelms or jams with it and I'm thinking about buying one to use at home too, that's how much I like it.
I purchased my 9800 about 1 year ago. I was looking for an affordable printer which handles oversize papers. I have been very happy with the purchase. I use the 9800 at my home work station, and besides the everyday letter-size print jobs I primarily use it to print music scores on 11x17 paper; the 9800 handles these jobs with ease. Good print quality, paper feed works flawlessly, and if needed I can print music scores on papers up to 13x19 in size. This is an outstanding printer.
The prints looked like they came from a print shop. Used the printer to create enlarged views for a display case and for event posters. Just gorgeous!
I have wanted a widebody printer for some time but the price was a little more than I could justify. Then, along comes the 9800 and I just had to have it. So far, it's performance is just what I expected it to be. I've been printing pictures and designs on fabric with great results. I have recommended it to my sewing friends who want to make memory quilts and wallhangings.
It took a bit of time to get the printer to do my unique, but primary, function...printing AutoCad drawings on 11"x 17" paper. It's been perfect and the side benefit has been outstanding color picture printing.
My experience with this product is not favorable. I found it very slow to begin printing, plus many printing errors occur causing waste of paper. The print quality is very poor as the ink cartridges seam to dry-up when not used for several weeks, waste basket fills up fast whilst "cleaning" and "re-aligning" the cartridges attempting to restore print quality, then alas, more printing errors. I selected this product for the features advertised print quality. This model was highly recommended by a close friend. Perhaps I got a lemon?
I have owned many HP's over the course of the years but this is the first HP I have been very, very disappointed with. Previously, I had another HP large format printer like this and loved it, but I moved and it was damaged during unpacking so I bought this one. It takes forever to digest information from the computer, will not print multiple copies (even though all the settings have been changed), is slow as all get out and will not accept 12x18 paper. I do not recommend the 9800.
