Print quality - excellent, toner lasts long (but it's expensive), usage - good. The biggest drawback - not working in Linux and BeOS. But after all, I adore this cool printer - and own one :)! 5 Big stars!
We used this printer for 14 months in a small work-group. The printer performed fine and quiet and created clean printouts. However it was not that durable. We were using an average of 1 original (HP) toner each 2 months and after about one year (just when the warranty ran out) it started to make vertical lines on the edge of paper which was not due to toner cartridge. Repair costs around $150, so we are replacing the printer with a new one! However with lower work load, I imagine it is a descent low cost printer.
This the the most reliable cost efficient printer that I have ever owned. I am a teacher and I run a photography buiness as well. this printer is capable of handling all my printing needes for both occupations.
The 1020 makes fast clear prints at a low cost. You get full page prints in the same time it takes a ink jet printers to put out a blank page. It also makes great quality photo prints for news letters. It is also small enough to be portable.
I purchased my HP Laserjet 3 years ago when I became self employed. Over that period of time I have had 3 other printers fail on me. The 1020 was for "business" the others, for home. Now it's for everything (except my photographs). I have since expanded my business such that I have another 2 client; both have replaced or upgraded their office comuters and printers, and to whom I have recommended the HP Laserjet 1020 to. Both made this purchase, and both have said "thank you" many times over. In short, It's easy to use - very user friendly; It works - all the time. It prints a great quality page. Best of all, It's very cost effective! I can print 1st page using letterhead from the auxilary feed tray and the balance of the documents using plain paper; I can print envelopes without a hitch... For personal use or for a small business, this printer is the best hands down!
Excellent Printer! Fast and Efficient. I got tired of having to change iink cartridges and colors on my old printer. I have yet to change cartridge after 9 months. I have one handy. Multipage documents print much faster and are better looking then inkjet models.
This printer was purchased for a small home office and replaced a LJIIIP. It is smaller, faster, and a lot less expensive to buy. We have been extremely happy with it so far as it has done everything we have asked of it, including handling labels, envelopes, and card stock. Our only wish is that it had a "reset" switch on it, i.e., if it runs out of paper there is no way to signal that you have put more paper in it.
I've had a HP Laserjet 1020 in the past and I really liked it. So, I bought another. Also, it fit my computer. Not that it was old, it's a newer one, a few years old, but found have taken a newer product, I just like the HP. This printer was seen at a government facility, so I figure they must have picked the right ones. I had a clunky older printer, and needed a newer one. At the time, I bought it right away, I fell in love with the design and compactness. It is only a monochrome, but it has printed B&W pictures, actually mostly print. Easy to install, simple to load and operate. Since I didn't receive a startup disc, I only began with instructions, which were easy to follow. Downloading software and registering was not difficult, but time consuming. I did all that and started up. Once everything was finished, it printed on command, which I do nowadays. I'll bet the first thing you thought of in looking at reviews was the refurbished product. Well, I've bought several refurbished products and all have turned out just great! I really love them. They are refurbished because they are older, or originally have some factory defect. Refurbishment repairs them to working order. This printer is workable and easy to install, just power cords and computer connection. 2 wires. Instructions or disc comes included. Everything you need from a competent company.
The owner of a replcement cartridge store referred the 1020 to me. It preforms very well and exceeds my expectations, expecially when considered with the cost of the machine. I would give it an unqualified recommendation after having used it for approximately 3 months.
Design and build quality feel a little mickey-mouse (R) but the print quality and speed are quite good. No manual feed for card stock or other stiff media, which is a drawback. No reset buttons, so if the thing stalls, you have to lift the cover and put it back again. But if you can get it for about $130, which most people are selling it for, and you don't print out a huge amount, it's a good little unit.
