HUGH was the successor to the duo's first pairing, A REMARK HUGH MADE. The bass-playing Hopper and keyboardist Kramer round out their trio with drummer Damon Krukowski (of Galaxie 500 and Damon & Naomi). The jointly composed tracks include songs built out of studio improvisations and others that bear the unmistakable stamp of both writers. Hopper's bass tones are as mesmerizing as ever. Krukowski was a wise choice for drummer, as he and Hopper play off each other with intuitive aplomb. Kramer's tape effects drift in and out of the proceedings--the sound of a magical radio dial being spun--and the separate pieces are juxtaposed in such a manner that the listener must embrace the album in its entirety.
