This is a gift for a The Giving Tree recipient
I got this for my 7 year old who struggles with spelling. You can put the child's spelling list on it and play games with those words. He seemed to master the speller right away. When a kid can play games, studying is more fun.
Just what the teacher ordered , my grandson uses it every day. The other kids in his room want to know where he got it. Great to improve spelling skills. Great for the price.
My daughter was having problems spelling so I bought this for her. I love the fact that you enter in how you THINK a word is spelled and it gives you the correct spelling. When she uses it, if she is not sure which word is the correct one, all she has to do is hit enter and it gives her the definition of the word. Before I bought this she was asking me 20 times a day how to spell something. Now she just grabs her Franklin dictionary. It also has games which makes her want to use it even more. Well worth the money!
I purchased this product for my 8-year-old daughter, and she loves it. One of her homework assignments is to write sentences with her spelling words every week, and the electronic dictionary comes in very handy for this. She also enjoys playing with it outside of homework time and even asks to bring it along when we go places. I like that the definitions are easy for her to understand, and it even includes games for her to play that helps her learn and think. I have already recommended this product to many parents.
I was a bit skeptical about purchasing an electronic dictionary for my 9 year old son but the Franklin electronic dictionary surpassed my expectations. It is everything and more! It's kid-friendly, kid-proofed and fun to use. He carries it with him all the time! Whenever he doesn't know what a word means, he looks it up. He also plays hangman, guess the word and tic-tac-toe. There are other games too. I believe it comes with a total of 6 games, there's a spell correction, it greets him when he turns it on and much more. Definitely worth the price and a fun way for kids to learn!
My five year old can easily maneuver through it. Very basic definition of words. Does tell if noun, verb, etc. Spell check is pretty nice. I try to have my daughter spell the word, if it is wrong it will give her word options then I can assist her. She scrolls through the words to the word she wants and hits enter and it gives the definition. Games are a nice addition. We use it for in the car for when she asks me questions about words, we use a regular dictionary at home.
I recently purchased 5 of these for the local elementary school to replace some older, worn out spell checkers. The kids love this one and the teacher says it is her favortie too. It is a spell checker, dictionary, has spelling games and more. The price for what you get is awesome.
Hadn't utilized it yet, Christmas gift.
I bought this for my daughter who is in the 4th grade this year (2010-2011). I really like the functions of this little dictionary......but: 1. The definitions could be a lot better. The definitions are too simple for a 4th grader. It doesn't really give the true essence of what the word really means. This electronic dictionary is fine for someone that wants to get a quick grade on Vocabulary homework.......without spending a lot of time on looking up a word and writing a long definition. But that's only if the child's spelling words are actually apart of the programming. 2. Even after looking up a word.........we would still use the book style dictionary for my daughter to truly understand the meaning of the word. And remember the book dictionary gives examples and uses the word in a sentence. 3. The worst part.........what grade level words did they choose to put in this dictionary. Because a lot of my daughter's 4th grade spelling words won't even show up because it isn't apart of their word package. 4. If your child needs to look up a word (depending on what the word is) with very simple definitions.........buy it. 5. If you just want to get him/her use to looking up words and building general vocabulary........buy it. The features are really cool for the price. I just wish it had more words, better definitions and gave a sentence so the child could really understand what the word means.
