This is a great telescope but as with astronomy it does require patience and some practice. It will do all functions you need. First time out of the box, go for easy items like the moon. Once you get the computer down the stars are the limit. Regular price is a little high and should be able to find on sale. Good for intermediate use as it travels well (need padded bag or case)
Very good telescope considering all the garbage out there for twice the price of this one (I have owned a few ). Very simple to assemble and use.Only problem was the attached spotting scope could be much better.Scope and autostar work great once you learn how to program it.
Overall, I'm pleased with the telescope. Setup was easy, although there's a bit of a learning curve with the Autostar feature. The product is packaged well for shipping; mine arrived with a big hole in the outer box but no damage to the telescope itself.
For the price tag, would you expect: 1. An owners manual that shows illustrations and provides procedures (assembly and operation) for a different telescope than the one you bought? 2. An instructional DVD that is aproximately 45 minutes in length (which later turned out to be a warning sign rather than a benefit) but yet was not specific enough for the telescope you bought? 3. An overly confusing "automated" star finder that could not be properly calibrated or function as promised? 4. Additional periodic calibration excercises that must be performed on a routine basis in order to ensure successful continued operation? If you are a casual observer I highly recommend purchasing the much cheaper and easier to use $100 model so you can just point and view without having to deal with all the electronic calibration system nonsense. If your life evolves around star gazing, I recommend you use the observatory telescope at your place of work (or rent it's use if possible), or purchase an electronic telepscope that actually works and is well worth your time and money.
This product was a complete hassel from the beginning. It didn't level out correctly, the instructions were for a different telescope model, the motor burned out because it kept running the telescope into the tripod, and I could go on and on. Find a better telescope than this one.
