Watched several YouTube videos and had no problem replacing leaky Model 5 disposer with this new one. I used a car jack to lift the new disposer into position. It is not real heavy but was awkward for me to lift with one hand and position with other. Very easy to connect the plumbing. This may be my first plumbing job I have done that didn't leak.
I needed to replace my disposal, so I bought the same exact Insinkerator model. Didn't need to replace the mounting bracket, so it was a simple step-by-step replacement which took no more than 15 minutes. I had never installed one before. Couldn't have been easier. Couldn't have been a more satisfying project.
I feed my dog a raw frozen diet. I use paper plates to thaw the food on, then rinse it off and set it in the dishwasher to dry and store until I need it again for her next meal. Etc. Not once, but twice I forgot to take the paper plates out of the dishwasher and ran them through the wash cycle. The dishwasher has a very good drain and strain system but I'm afraid some of the paper plates made it through and locked up my garbage disposal. Don't do what I did or you will be buying a new garbage disposal as well. But, not to worry, it is very easy to install. You really don't need a plumber to do it for you. I am a 70 year old woman and I installed mine very easily.
The Insinkerator definitely does the job for us! We did not install one after our kitchen renovation in 2020, have always missed it. The problem was I didn't want my backsplash carved for outlet. Found the Air push button on line and love it! See picture.
This Bader 5 disposer was pretty straight forward to setup and easy to use. Solidly made and lasts long. Pretty quiet for this version and grinds trash very well. Fits in existing installation of older Badger replacement with ease.
I bought a Badger 5 sink disposal... again! This is unit #3. My home had a Badger 5 in it when I purchased it many years ago. I had to replace that unit when I finally wore it out. I replaced it with another new Badger 5 unit. That was over 25 years ago! I finally wore that one out and I replaced it with yet another new Badger 5! They work very well, and are reliable. I installed it myself for both plumbing and electrical. I mostly take my kitchen refuse to my compost, but I also need an in-sink disposal unit on a daily basis, too for my chef's delight, hard working kitchen... The Badger 5 InSinkErator sink disposal is a very reliable unit, is quiet and always does its job well... very well!!
I've have always bought InSinkerator Garbage Disposals. The work very well. The last one failed after 8+ years and failed because of a leak in the metal diaphragm (seal) that separate the grinding chamber and the electric motor (highlighted in yellow in the attached. InSinkerator has now come out with variants with stainless steel grinding components, but those are useless for the type of use in my house (I never had an issue with the galvanized grinding components). Can InSinkerator develop a Badger 5 version with Stainless Steel diaphragm (seal)? If not, It's time for me to start exploring alternative brands. Thanks
We hardly use our garbage disposal at all. We put only small delicate material in it that is usually too fine to fish out of the sink. However, it developed 2 CRACKS in the upper housing. This caused a host of problems such as flooding under the sink, ruining some product stored there, water damage requiring tear out of toe kick, etc. for remediation. This was only 5 years old. It still looks new in appearance, but caused quite a mess due to poor manufacturing material. I believe the upper portion is pot metal or thin cast metal that just shook itself apart. SPEND THE EXTRA MONEY TO GET A BETTER UNIT. IT WILL BE CHEAPER IN THE LONG RUN. (Picture shows only one of the two cracks)
I have the badger 5 plus 7, which came with our home that was built in 2007. It hasn't even been 8 years, but woke up this morning to find that this product was leaking like crazy. Not just a few drips here and there, but leaking just as fast as the water drained from the sink. This was surprising since we always throw food scraps in the garbage and just rise the plates clean. The leak is from the bottom, and all the plumbing to and from the unit show no leaks whatsoever. It's a shame because my parents have had another name brand unit for nearly 15 years with no trouble at all.
In places we've previously lived, the garbage disposal could handle banana peels and even cantaloupe rinds. We haven't tried rinds, but banana peels don't go down due to the fibers in the peel. It becomes like a "hairball" and then it makes the disposal loud. I have to dig out the hairball after each time. I wish I had known this as I would have kept the old one which was 15 years old and handled banana peels, etc. just fine.
