I bought these speakers about a month ago. I needed a new pair of speakers (as surrounds) for my audio/ video system. I have had many years of experience with JBL so I didn't need to look further than JBL for this purchase. I have a pair of JBL L110s that I purchased new 40 years ago (I had them re-coned about 10 yrs ago) that I use as the front/ main speakers and still sound perfect. I also have a 10" Sub and a JBL HLS center speaker, and needed to upgrade the surrounds. Enter the Studio 220s. The 220s are a perfect compliment to my system. Their sound is very clear and defined and defy their small size. I was also considering the Studio 230s, which are a little bigger but I couldn't pass up the sale on the 220s. I could not be happier. These little speakers can handle plenty of power, and sound much bigger than their size. Technology has changed over the years but JBL still produces top quality speakers. The critic in me has only one small complaint. The top surface of the speakers is made of black plastic. I don't know if this material contributes to the performance or has some other design function but is does cheapen their appearance somewhat. However, with the speakers on a bookshelf, the plastic isn't really visible. I would have rather seen the top of the speakers match the rest of the external surface. Overall, I still give them five stars. Thank you JBL.
I bought these for rear surround sounds but had a hard time taking them from my office. I set them a top of my JBL L96s (3 way with 10 woofers) to test them when the arrived and immediately was impressed. Sarah McLaughlin was amazing and I listened to Mirrorball twice. At low volumes they filled the room with sound like the L96s and are perfect for easy listening. I moved them to the rear channels of my HT and ran the set up program and it set the cross aver at 80hz, the same as my studio 230s. My only regret is not buying 2 pair.
Have always liked JBL. In the past 4 years I've tried some other brands...hi and low end stuff. Got these because they look so good. The shock factor came from the rich full range. Just a well made and great sounding speaker. Thank you Harman.
Paired these with a JBL 10" subwoofer. Excellent power handling, sound and clarity. Could not be happier!
Bought these to replace a set of G5s' as the rear surround, surprised at the increase in sound quality. Match the rest of my JBL system perfectly. Very happy with the transaction.
These replaced some old bookshelf's used as rear surrounds. Highs are very crips and clear, and the 4” has just the right amount of bass. After EQing the room the audio sweet spot has opened up quite a bit for a better sounding experience. Fantastic sound from a small speaker!
These speakers physically look smaller than their actual measurements but they sound like a much larger speaker when in use. The 220 replaces the 130 in the height position in my home set up. Both the 220 and 130 have 4" drivers but the 130 speaker itself was roughly 4" taller than the 220. I bought the 220's without much expectation about them performing better than the 130's or "wowing" me by any means. Honestly I bought the 220's so the height speakers would blend better appearance wise with my JBL 235c speaker and be a little less bulk on the wall. Plus I'm a diva and I love to shop :P Anyways, the moment the first audio signal was sent to the 220's they opened up and projected better than my well broken in 130 speakers did. These little stylish black boxes pump out serious sound. There is noticeably more content coming out of the 220's vs 130's in both movies and music. I was "wowed" by the additional content and clarity while listening to music that the 220's deliver than my 130's could not. At 8lbs a piece the 220 is easily wall mountable and with its small stature calls little attention to itself but when the sound is kicking believe me, you'll know they're there ;)
I have had JBL speakers for years. When I needed a pair of surround speakers for my home theater system, I decided to go with the Studio 220. It was an outstanding choice! Excellent sound from a nicely sized package. The cabinet also compliments the decor in my den.
I have the Studio 290 towers and the 235c center channel and these complete my 5.1 set up. I was using back speakers until I decided to get these. I couldn't believe the difference in sound that I got. These speakers aren't huge, but their sound is. Movies and music sound great! Happy to have all studio line speakers in my home theater.
Fast Shipping is always a plus, but once you get good speaker wire and hook these speakers up, you know you made a good purchase. Short and easy to place anywhere, but the sound is awesome.
