Detailed product description

Recommended Enclosure Size: Minimum aquarium size for black bar endlers is five gallons for a small group, 2.5 gallons for a pair. For larger colonies, 10 gallons or more are recommended. Temperature: These animals thrive in a range of temperatures. Anywhere between 72-84 degrees fahrenheit is considered ideal. The higher the temperature, the more sped up their metabolism, which can lead to slightly shorter lifespans. pH/Hardness: Like most livebearers, black bar endlers prefer harder water. A pH of 7.0-8.5 is the appropriate range for them. 7.5 and up is ideal. Size: Males stay slightly smaller, topping out at around 1” in length, while females can get to just under 2.” The animals at time of sale will be at least 0.5-0.75” and sexually mature. Age: At time of purchase, these animals are at least 3 months old. Black bar endler’s livebearer can live for 2-3 years. Feeding: Endler’s livebearers, much like guppies, are not picky about what they eat. They tend to prefer feeding at the surface, so a high quality flake food is a must. They will also readily eat repashy gel foods and frozen brine shrimp or daphnia. Live microworms or live baby brine shrimp make a great treat. Sexing: Endler’s livebearers display strong sexual dimorphism. In addition to males staying smaller than females, they are also much prettier. Female endler’s will be a drab grey/brown color. Males on the other hand display oranges, reds, blues, and greens broken up with dark black markings. You are buying a sexed pair (m/f). Color/Pattern: The black bar pattern is the dark markings on the sides of the male endler’s. The dominant color on males tends to be orange/red on the body, which can extend into the dorsal and caudal fins. Females, as stated above, have no notable color. Newborn endler’s all look like females until they reach a few weeks of age, at which point the males will develop their patterns. Social Behavior: Endler’s livebearers prefer to be amongst their own kind. Care should be taken not to have more males than females, however, as they may excessively harass the females. The adults are not quick to eat their offspring and from a few pairs, one can obtain a substantial colony within a few months. They can be kept in communities with other small fish.
