Product arrived in good working order. It fits in the mounting bracket that was already installed for my old smoke detector, so this was a pop-and-swap operation.
Dual sensor smoke alarms are recommended, but hard to find. This unit has two sensors: photoelectric (best for detecting a smoldering fire) and ionization (best for detecting a fast, flaming fire). The current model, PI9010, replaces the earlier PI9000 (which looks the same). Smoke detectors have a 10-year life, and should be replaced then, even if they are working. Look on the back of the detector for the date of manufacture -- it should be recent (not more than a year old). The units I purchased from the Walmart site came from Zoro: they were the current model (PI9010), with a recent manufacturing date, the price was competitive (the lowest I found), and delivery was quick.
This alarm was 1 of 2 recommenced by Consumer Reports as the best they tested Had no problems installing battery or mounting it. Used them to replace my old alarms, since they should be replaced every 10 years.
These alarm work better than the one that came with our security system.
Installs easy, haven't had a fire so, I don't know if it works. I will let you know if, hopefully not, it works
