Received this from the Spark Reviewer Program. The Klean Strip Boiled Linseed Oil (BLO) is the classic way to give old wood a classic and new finish. This product can also be used to improve the flow and gloss of oil based paints, though I choose to polish up my front door. I washed and scrubbed down the front door and after reading the directions, I applied the first coat with a brush (which I later threw away) wiped off the excess oil with a clean disposable rag after about 30 minutes. The single coat made a big difference on the front door. This product will continue to protect our front door for quite some time. Having the BLO rubbed on any type of natural wood, will also preserve the original color, so there is no color to match, only the beauty to enjoy. Love this.
I used this on a cedar fence that has been up for about five years. It is starting to fade and show water marks. I put this on and it brought back some of the beauty of the fence and provides protection for the wood. I wanted to take pictures but we have had rain for several days and it is difficult to see how it improved the looks of the fence. I would recommend this for any wood that needs to be brightened and brought back to life.
This item took a little more time to arrived than I expected. I took a picture of my dining table before I use the oil. I prepare the surface by sanding it until smooth. First application was very light, waited 3 days until dry. Second application, wow! It makes a big difference, my dining table look like new,. I intent to apply one more coat after this one dries completely. It has a pleasant odor, you can use it inside the house. I am very happy with the look and shine. Was thinking to buy a new dinning table, but now I live mine again. I recommend that before you buy,. Try to restore. It's Amazing. I will re-do the oil at least 3 times a year. It's very easy.
We are putting up an outdoor fence and decided to treat the wood with this oil (all outdoors of course) we are just following the directions and it is coming out beautifully! When we get a large section finished I will edit this and add pictures.
First: easy to open, easy to pour. Not a great smell, but it didn't burn my eyes or nose. I used product to add an additional protective layer to treated wood that is exposed to the elements daily. Used with a staining brush, and it applied very easily. I finished in less than 30 minutes. It definitely enriched and highlighted the natural wood. In the drying phase, it did not seem to overly attract dust particles, so it left a smooth and clean coat. Have not had a chance to test it's water-repellent properties, but I expect that it will do as advertised. I also look forward to seeing how it works on metal in the future.
This product is great for on the surface protection for natural looking wood projects. I toy around with pen turning and have made several using this Klean Strip Boiled Linseed Oil. It has a nice natural finish for wood since it soaks into the wood slowly and is fully absorbed within a few days. I've used it on reclaimed woods that were several years old and it was perfect. Cleanup is simple and easy, and didn't require any chemicals or leave residue. Application was straight forward using an old rag, and it's safe for indoor or outdoor use. I prefer this to other finishes that have a strong chemical smell or residue and can take away from the feel of the wood in my opinion. This product just helps to enhance the natural wood and protect it. It only takes a little to get the job done, so this quart will last me for many years I imagine! You can see the nice finish it helped me to achieve on this pen and matching box! I can't wait to see what other projects it will help me with!
I was excited to receive this because linseed oil has been used on rifle stocks for over a century and is one of the most common coatings in the world. I like to use it because boiled linseed oil dries faster and won't run like plain linseed oil can. You just keep adding layers until you have a lovely rifle that over the course of several years will get a nice reddish tint to it because the linseed oil oxidises. It can be time consuming but is worth it. I might try to use it on some I unfinished wood next.
Applied this to areas where the shine had dulled and cabinets, doors, shelves - all came to life. Even wooden chimes! Rub on well and rub it in to leave a great shine. No scent, safe on hands - used a small washcloth to apply oil and a paint brush to get to detailed areas and hard to get hinges and edges. Wipe areas you are going to apply this oil to - needs to be clean, or use sandpaper on untreated wood. Make sure you wash the cloth - don't leave it around because it is VERY FLAMMABLE. I washed my rag to reuse later because I didn't want to forget it in a can in the garage. Although it doesn't smell - I had ventilation going - fan and took some things outside to apply and let dry in the air. Wood just sucks it up!
This works really well! I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for something like this! It's been used on a small stool first to test it out! So now we are going to try a gun stock we hope it turns out good! I will be buying some More!!!
Klean strip boiled linseed oil will be great to restore the wood deck . Our old deck will look great when I am done. Seems easy to use. The smell was ok for that type of product.
