My son loves it. Its got a thinner body style which makes it easier to play if you are a younger player. Sounds good too.
Works great, sounds great, bought 2 of them.
I have been playing guitar for close to 15 years and have played (and owned) everything from Alvarez and Ovation to Martin and Taylor. While this guitar won't sound quite as good as an Ovation plugged in or a Taylor acoustically, it really holds its own well. With a new set of Elixirs, this guitar truly sounds like it deserves to be in a higher price bracket. While this is obviously particle board, it is one of the best sounding particle boards I have ever played. The thin body of the guitar means you get more on the high strings than the low, kind of like a grand auditorium style guitar.
I bought this guitar for my step daughter a month or so ago and I'm a seasoned musician (piano, synthesizers and trumpet) who played professionally for ~20 years. For the money, you can't beat this guitar. It has great tonal quality, a very nice look to it and plays well. I like the volume and EQ controls on the top of the guitar as well as the placement of the input cord at the bottom of the guitar, where the strap connects. I was amazed at the tonal quality - it really has a warm acoustic sound that sounds great through an amplifier.
Great guitar, I was going to buy one at another retailer for a higher price but decided to check Walmart first and I'm glad I did. The product was more than I expected and I got it in two days as opposed to the four days that it said it would take to get it so I am very satisfied with it and I would recommend it to anyone and that they check Walmart prices first before buying somewhere else!!!!!!!
First off let me say how much I love the way it looks!!! It's aesthetically pleasing which is good in and of itself. Second the size and weight is great and I love the sound. It does sound different from my full body acoustic but I like the difference. And this plays great electrically, just make sure to invest in a good amp! One thing I'm not to fond of is that one of the strings buzzes slightly. I haven't bothered to restring it though and see it that fixes it because it's not much bother to me. But besides that this is great!!!! I Love my kona!
excellent guitar
Have not received it yet, 2 days past due.
I bought this guitar online, and returned it to my local Walmart store. The biggest problem with very cheap guitars, is that (many times) the "action" is set too high. This happens, when the strings (of the guitar) are set too high (off the fretboard) at the factory. It renders the guitar unplayable. That was definitely the case, with this guitar. The strings were 3/8 of an inch, off the fretboard at the first 3 frets. By the 12th fret, there was a full half inch gap between the strings and the fretboard. It was ridiculous. This guitar is very shiny. It LOOKS like a beautiful instrument, to the casual observer. To someone who doesn't play guitar, it's a very attractive "guitar"... but unfortunately, it's not playable. The "playability" of a guitar, is the WHOLE ball of wax my friends. That's what you're paying for, with a quality guitar. If you buy this ultra-cheap guitar for your kid, they will quit (out of frustration), before they learn to play. Give your child a fair chance, and buy him/her a "playable" instrument for a few dollars more. Yamaha makes good entry-level guitars, at very reasonable prices. Even their cheapest offerings, are very playable. "Gretsch" is currently making an acoustic "parlor-sized guitar" called the "Jim Dandy" for $150. It's VERY playable. The quality control at Gretsch is fabulous. It's hands-down a better purchase, than this shiny paperweight. For another $25-50, you can't go wrong. All that glitters, is not gold. Don't waste your time and money on this Kona brand.
I bought one of these guitars a few years ago from another dealer and after some work on the fret board and neck it played very well. The one I just purchased from Walmart had finish flaws I did not expect. An open hole in the head near the G string tuner, a black streak under the finish on the back. The gold finish on the tuning gears are tarnished and faded. The B string tuning gear has slip in it. The frets below the 12th fret are setting high. The edge of the fret board and binding are unfinished, frets are sharp and could cause a cut. I am a little disappointed.
