It is tar based so you need to be ready for clean up - paint thinner or mineral spirits. Applies very easily with extended paint roller and very quickly this way. You must be careful to cover all areas so that you have a good seal on the roof. I just pour over a small area (not too much!) and roll it out with the paint roller. You can also use a brush which takes more time. It reflects the sun but it also protects your roof with a good coating that helps to preserve your roof. I have used on my shingle roof but there are some questions about doing this due to shingle's need to "breath". I do not seem to have a problem but my shingles are older so I figured it if it didn't work well I could put a new roof on at a latter time. I just keep an eye on the condition of the roof. I have had a good deal of the roof finished for about about six months so I know it works for me. The price is great. It helps protect the shingles from wear and the tar based paint helps keep the gravel-grit secure. It has an aluminum ingrediant to reflect the sun for energy savings. It must be mixed well and is best done by the Walmart paint department. I probably will use about 40 gallons to do a 1700 + square foot house. The roof must be sound or properly sealed and repaired as needed before the product is applied. Again, it is not recommended by the company for shingle roofs because of the decomposition and moisture content that requires the natural gases to escape but for my older roof it was worth trying. I chose not to use the "Elastrometric" version because I felt the tar based version was more like the tar composition shingles and more likely to breath than a plastic type of coating. It is difficult to find in stock at Walmart but I believe it is a Sherwinn Williams family product. A company phone number can be found on the paint can. I really like this product! I would give it an A+ rating.
