I have used this product for a few years to seal my small woodworking projects.. It's easy to apply, dripless and has a low shine lasting finish
Works very well. Used to bring back the color to my shutters on my house that were dull. Once sprayed on it gave life back to my dull looking shutters.
Both the Krylon Acrylic Crystal Clear Gloss and Satin formulas are top-notch products and yield a high-quality finish. I use the Satin as the final top-coat AFTER applying several light coats of the Krylon Acrylic Clear Gloss on my carved woodworking projects. Most woodworkers who want a satin finish know how important it is to apply a few light coats of Gloss finish before the final Satin coat, in order for the woodgrain to show clearly. Applying several coats of just satin alone would "dull out" the woodgrain too much. Apply your Gloss coats first, then a very light coat or two of the Satin for the FINAL coat only, if you want the best possible appearance for wood. (Unless you WANT a Gloss finish, of course.)
Best product I've found for my needs
Goes on easily, covers well, hopefully preserves wood in weather.
I also had an issue when applying this product. It was a difficult and time consuming ordeal to get my project to its final stage because the clear coat reacted to an automotive clear coat that was previously sprayed and underneath. When I sanded down to the automotive surface and broke through its "surface" there was a reaction that caused the color master to warp and fish eye. However, areas where the automotive coat were undisturbed turned out excellent. I wish there was something that stated that the product not could but would react with certain under coatings and that it is best to be used on raw material and certain kinds of paint because I would have saved some money, materials and a whole lot of time and would have just stuck with the automotive clear coat or I would have sanded back down all the way to wood. No stain, no paint.... all hardwood with 2 layers of automotive under coating for durability. Overall, this product leaves a desirable finish and I will buy it again because I like the product I will just be more cautious next time and test it in an area I can mesh up next time before spraying the whole project.
This is good but for my projects I prefer the gloss. (outdoor statues) The dirt washes off much easier.
This clearcoat applies white which had me concerned because i was spraying on my truck but after 24 hours most of it cleared up except for the runs and thick areas, all runs or extra thick areas are still white after 72 hours. All in all if carefully applied with thin coats and no runs you will have a good finish.
The instructions say nothing about the type of surface this can be used on except to say wood, plastic, etc. I tried to use this as a sealer over a barn quilt (a quilt square pattern on a large board backing) and though I won't go so far as to say it ruined it, it did not produce the desired results. After spraying, it dried with a layer of what appeared to be dust, which could be brushed off. We stupidly repeated the process thinking it might improve, but it did not. Each time a layer of dust appeared. I was The finish was supposed to be satin, but the result was a very matte chalky surface. Be careful what you use this on. They tell you to test somewhere before use, and that is good advice. I have never experienced this type of result with any other spray paint I have used before.
Made a photo block ornament. Wood block, covered with paper and then photos (prints), coated with Mod Podge, allowed to dry 2 days. Sprayed with Krylon Crystal Clear. OMGOODNESS! The pictures images appear to have melted faces,,,, ruined! What happened?
