I got this for my almost 4 year old grandson and he loves it. I really like to give learning toys and this one really hit the mark. He can play with it anywhere. It was actually recommended by my sister who had purchased it a couple of years ago for her grandson. I will probably order another one to have for my other grandson once he is a little older.
We are currently working on letter sounds and recognition with our four year old and the LeapFrog Word Whammer go along perfectly with that. I feel it's very reasonably priced, has been very durable and proven to be tons of fun. I even find my 8 year old playing on it as well! Highly recommended for preschoolers that are learning to read.
My 4 year old has had so much fun with the Word Whammer. She is in Pre-K and just starting to put words together but not yet reading on her own so this was the perfect time to introduce her to this toy. Kids can choose from several different games including Penguin's Teacup Twister, Panda's Bumper Cars, Dragon's Rocket Ride. Each of the games work on letter recognition, and filling in a missing letter to form words. Even my 7 year old enjoyed playing with this even though he reads independently already. I like that my 4 year can take this in the car and play while we're running errands or waiting for her older siblings. We received this toy in exchange for a review but all opinions are my own.
Super fun for my 6 year old son to use and fun to learn.
product was provided by leapfrog for the purpose of this review. thoughts are 100% ours. Kids are learning how to spell and read much earlier than we did as kids. knowing their Letters and site words are key to helping kids take the next step to reading. Word Whammer makes reading fun. There's 3 fun games and silly tunes and fun lil cartoons that make kids laugh. My son is 7 and he already knows how to read but playing spelling games with the word whammer is even fun for him. My son says he likes when he wins prizes for spelling words. Then he likes bringing them to the carnival and showing them to all the other animals. He says he likes playing the Dragon’s Rocket ride the most because you get to be in a rocket even though dragons can fly. He thinks that’s funny. At the of the game it shows you how many you get right and it says you win six tickets and shows them on the screen. I like that alot about it. I play before bed and sometimes like to bring it in the car with us when we go for drives. My best friend the school teacher says she really loves it and is going to pick up one for her son who's starting Kindergarten next yr. She loves it teaches 3 letter words and the sounds to the letter. Letter matching is great for kids.
I was so excited when the Word Whammer was sent to us from Leap Frog to review. My son was entering Kindergarten and had just begun reading when the product arrived. The design is brilliant for the 5-ish year old! My son loves steering it as he twists, taps and spins the little device. The three included games are fun and educational and the child can even drive a car into the correct answer. The price falls right into the birthday party range and the toy is light enough to tuck into a bag or bring in the car. Like all Leap Frog products - the intuitive automatic leveling keeps the child engaged. This is a fun and helpful tool to work on phonics and spelling skills.
In this world of full color ipads it's hard to compete with full color awesome graphics--however ipads cost hundreds of dollars and do way more than just run kids games. This is a simple toy that emphasizes short words, short vowels, and spelling. And it repeats itself so much that your kids are bound to remember something. It's not the most entertaining, but it really is educational. The games are all basically the same and the levels don't seem to advance very much. However if your child is struggling with basic early reading concepts, this is a great toy to help them.
i love it and so is my son its educational and fun
My five year old son loves the Word Whammer. Initially he was drawn to it because it looks very similar to a game his teenage brother has. With the Word Whammer he is learning sounds and letters as he plays. This toy is sized perfectly for his little hands. Just a few things to note: this is a noisy toy, but thankfully comes with two sound levels (thank you, LeapFrog!). The next is, the screen is old-style pixilated. This isn't an issue to me or for game playing, but just something to note. It is not the newer, high quality LCD screen.
Word Whammer is a toy that kids spin, tap, twist and more to spell words, match letters and pick the correct letter sounds. It reminds me of the Bop It toy but Word Whammer is both educational and fun. At $20, I think its a neat toy for any child ages 4-6 years old, perfect to get them ready for Kindergarten and 1st grade. I gave it to my 4 year old and she immediately had the thing figured out. She is still learning so she makes a lot of mistakes but I love seeing her try and pick it back up randomly throughout the day. I like to keep it in the car and it is a great way to keep her busy while learning. I received this product to review in exchange for sharing my honest opinion.
