LEGO - Creator Expert Bookshop 10270

A pleasant and enjoyable build.

When I first saw the box art I kept thinking of buildings I've seen in my hometown. It looked like a nice, quite slice from the city. And the build did not disappoint. I haven't bought or built a Lego set in nearly 15 years, and with each one I build now I'm impressed by the amount of milage they get out of every piece. A lot of creativity and talent at Lego, and it shows in this set. From the stonework, to the bay window, and even how they connect every room, I couldn't help but smile thinking how much fun the people who designed this must have had. I won't spoil much, as part of the fun for me is seeing how they use pieces in clever ways, but one thing that surprised me was how they used skeleton legs to make the rooftop guardrail on top of Birch Books. That's something I never would have thought of doing, and when put together it fits together seamlessly. I'd highly recommend this to anyone looking to get back into Lego, and it makes a beautiful display piece as well. That's not to say younger fans of Lego wouldn't have a great time going through the rooms and playing out scenarios with their mini figures. This is also the first set that I've come across that would make a great cooperative build, as both buildings have individual sets of instructions. It would be an enjoyable activity for families, but even couples looking to have a nice project to work on together would enjoy this as well. Great work to the folks at Lego.

I love it!

I own three expert modular buildings so I am not the most experienced with this series and more experienced lego fans may have more useful things to say but I love this set. The build was fun, the main colors of the buildings look nice together, and it fits right in with my other two modular buildings. One odd thing is that one of the pieces looks like its marbled when I'm pretty sure it shouldn't be but, its not a huge deal because you can only see it from the side. I do think this set could use a little more interior detail, particularly in the apartment above the book store but I can always do that myself using my frankly ridiculously huge collection of legos. I love this set and I cant wait to see what lego does with this series next!

Bookshop modular building

What a great build. I enjoyed building the two modular buildings separately, the bookshop and the townhouse. Lots of fun techniques to accomplish the look of both builds. The minifigures are good also, wish there were more! This is a must have in the modular series

My first modular building!

This was the first set I got after the Central Perk set got me back into the game that is LEGO. I had no idea what I was in for! The Friends one was fun to build but this was fantastic. I really loved building all these little intricate things for the first time. I had had no idea things could look like that. The exterior, for most of the modulars, is the main draw, and that's the case with this one. The interior IS lovely, though, don't get me wrong. Many complain about the lack of books in the book shop but I find it plenty sufficient. The green stairs are so gorgeous. The rooms are so great and efficient. I think my favorite is the little townhouse, though. It reminds my wife and I of our own little apartment in NYC and is really quite cute. The bay windows in the front is probably my favorite feature on any exterior of any modular. I got some cheap LED lights and lit it my own way instead of buying one of those expensive packs, see for yourself how it turned out. It's all so beautiful and was a heck of a way to get into the modular scene. I bought a great many after this, the Diner being my personal favorite, but this one is still terrific.

This set doesn't achieve the same level of detail as some of the other Modular buildings, like Parisian Restaurant and Detective's Office. I was a little disappointed in the bookshop's interior; there aren't a lot of books and the upper floors are basic. The townhouse was more thought out in my opinion. I love the mouse trap in the basement and the first floor's sitting area containing a fireplace and table with a teapot and newspaper. As for the exterior of this set, I appreciate the birch tree with a perched bird. I also like the color scheme and “Birch Books” sign. Overall, while I think the Bookshop could be improved, it is a nice addition to the Modular series. I would recommend placing it next to the Pet Shop or another small building.

My son was very happy with the set. I liked how quickly the package arrived. It is a great set that my son will enjoy and play with for years. The only thing I didn't like was they didn't ship it in an mailing box. The Lego box was dented up and the tape was coming loose and the labels were hard to get off the Lego box.

By far the least amazing modular building set

Bookshop is my 10th modular set. I got it after I completed the 2021 police station. Before the purchase I was aware the review of this product is not as amazing, when I finish the last brick of this set, I understood why: 1. It feels small. 2. Building technique is repetitive. 3. Only 2 floors vs most 3 floors for other modular sets. Overall, this set is only valuable to me because it's a modular set. If I didn't want to collect them I would not bother to get this one. But keep in mind, I only made those comments based on comparison to the high quality products lego has made, this set is still cool if you are purchase for someone new to lego.

Only 1/2 happy with this set.

I feel only half happy with this set. The reason being, I wish this set had been a stand-alone building of the bookshop rather than compromising so much by adding a second building. The compromises are pretty sever, especially for the teal townhouse, which is lacking a bathroom, a kitchen and the basement is more of a crawl space. This is suppose to be a home, but lacks the basic necessities of a house. The bookshop itself suffers from the same disappointing compromises as the bookshop, but on top of not having a bathroom or a kitchen, the bookshop suffers from a lack of books and bookshelves. I like how the bookshop exterior building looks and the colors. I also like how the townhouse looks, but I REALLY dislike the teal color. The teal seems to really clash with the warm colors of the bookshop. The build techniques are fine and the set was enjoyable to build. I love bookshops, and I got this set because of that love. But I DON'T love this set. I would had loved this set if the designers didn't make any compromises by just sticking to one building, the bookshop. I would had loved to had seen a fully realized bookshop with at least two isles of bookshelves, glass cabinets displaying rare books, a bathroom, and a backroom or office. This set is such a missed opportunity, as I have seen builders who purchased two of these sets to built a full bookshop building. I'm not going to double dip for something the designers should had done in the first place though.
