this product is verry fun. i recomend buyin leggo people,or making clay pople
My 9 year-old son received this for Christmas. I had to help him build it and it took about 2 1/2 hours to complete it. It was a little frustrating because the two main gears would take turns moving smooth and rough. What I do not like about it is that the swing works great but the drop swing doesn't. The drop swing is lifted to the top but then jams the gears b/c it can't go farther. So then you have to make it go into reverse to make it go back down. It doesn't " drop" down. And you have an entire other side of "tracks" that you never use. Plus the box was short a few pieces so the drop swing seat wasn't a 2-seater only a bench. So if you just want to build something that is pretty cool with a motor but doesn't care if all parts work then get it. Otherwise get a different k'nex.
Like reviewers here and elsewhere, the kit was fun to assemble with mostly clear instructions. It's a little scary that some of the parts are tiny and it comes with exactly the correct number of parts -- no spares in this kit. The swing part works fine, but the drop ride is something else. The first time most people turn it on, the car rides to the top, is released, and maybe drops an inch or two. Then the gears engage, it gets stuck at the top, and the mechanism starts making awful noises as it tries to move the unmovable car. Put a drop of light vegetable oil on all the moving part bearings, make sure the chain is inside the tower at the rear, and outside the tower at the front, try removing the topmost yellow crossbar on the front of the tower, and add a little weight to the car. Then it will go. I really bought it for the motor and gears to use in other models, as the set is $20 and the motor alone is $15. But I had to build it first, and I'm glad I tried it. Have faith, oil, fiddle around, and the drop will work!
My son loves it, but that sticking problem that everyone else has is cumbersome. Wish Knex would have designed it properly before putting it on the market.
