This finished his collection and he loves building this kind of stuff. It keeps him occupied for several hours.
My 7-year-old son received the Octopus Whirl as a Christmas gift and LOVES it. He put it together in one afternoon. The only assistance he needed was with snapping some of the smaller pieces together. He's begging for the other 3 sets that complement the Octopus Whirl. His 10-year-old cousin received the rollercoaster in the Collect and Build line. My son helped him contstruct it. They had a great time together. This is definitely a keeper.
My son received this as a Christmas gift from his great grandparents. He will be nine in one month. He loved it! He was able to build it completely by himself in one afternoon. He did it at the kitchen table on Christmas day. It was fun, interesting and challenging, but not difficult. He is now dying to use his gift cards to purchase more of the carnival ride k'nex kits. I think it's super if your child enjoys building things and does not get easily frustrated.
There is no way on earth a 7 year old could put the 454 pieces of this toy together. After several evenings of working on it I finally got it done and my son picked it up by the octopus arm and it fell apart. The pieces are tiny and the instructions are simply pictures that are somewhat difficult to interpret. This is a dud.
