I have Wacom Cintiq 24 pro with 4k resolution, paid over $2000. I can tell you that this monitor has much better sharpness and color reproduction. I am using it professionally for game design, it is really amazing. The joystick power button controller is also very easy to use. I love it.

Great value in a high-end, compact display

The LG 24UD58-B represents an exceptional value in high-end displays. I've been using a dual-display setup for a couple years now, with a 2.15" 4K iMac as the primary display and, until recently, an inexpensive 1080p monitor as the secondary display. The difference in clarity, brightness and color gamut was noticeable and when it died suddenly, just after the warranty ran out, I decided it was time to upgrade to a much better secondary display. I quickly discovered, however, that UHD and 4K displays start at over $500, and that most are 27" or 32" or larger, without any increase in resolution. Not only would a 27" display have dwarfed my primary display, but it would have overwhelmed the remaining space on my computer desk. The whole idea behind a so-called retina display is to use the higher dot-pitch to improve graphics - not to make text larger. The LG display has three inputs - two HDMI inputs and a DisplayPort input. I learned the hard way that using either HDMI input with the iMac limits the frame rate to 30 fps and, worse still, restricts the display to 1080p. In order to take full advantage of UHD resolution, it's necessary to use the DisplayPort input, either via a Thunderbolt dock or via a USB-C to DisplayPort adapter. When connected via the DisplayPort interface, the iMac instantly recognizes the display as a retina display and affords it the same virtual graphics resolution as it does its native display. In other words, it maintains full resolution graphics while adjusting text size to the user's taste. I find that, as with the primary display, I tend to set the resolution higher than the default setting, as the text is much crisper than on a conventional display and I prefer a larger desktop. I've been using my LG monitor for a few weeks now and continue to be impressed by how well it matches the Apple display next to it. It's not quite as bright, even at maximum setting, but it's sharp and clear, even with its dull matte finish. I now use the two displays equally, which is a big improvement over the old secondary display. The controls are very intuitive and accessed via a single joystick on the underside of the display. This works much better than more traditional arrangements of buttons. The app provided via download adds some additional features that are useful. I find the split-screen option much more versatile and useful than Apple's own, but it doesn't play well with changing apps. I use it to arrange my screen, and then I turn it off. For Mac users, LG needs to improve split screen to make it aware of multiple screens and to better adapt to different groups of apps. All in all, I find the LG 24UD58-B to be a pleasure to use and a significant addition to my setup. That it only cost about $250 makes it an affordable option for those needing a high-performance graphic display.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] So pleased with my first purchase of the 27UD58-B that I purchased a second for use in my music studio. A bright and clear picture that presents clarity of small icon buttons is essential in digital workstations. This is a perfect choice x2.

I got this a few days ago. Everything about this monitor is outstanding. The quality of the components, the way it is packaged was done very well. I have this on a spring compensated position arm. The monitor is light. Moves with ease. (Stand up / sit down / push it out of the way). There is the right amount of space on the edges to grab the monitor and position it without leaving finger prints on the screen. Love the joystick on the bottom for controls. Sweet. First one I have seen with this approach. Press the stick in to select. Forward and back / side to side to move the controls like a mouse. Works very well. No time needed to get used to it. It is very well done. The connectors come directly out of the back, which is ideal for use with an articulating arm. See the pictures. The provided DPort cable worked out to be a couple of feet short for what I needed. (Looks to be around 4 Ft.) But workable for now. I have read that the cable quality is important at these resolutions and speed, so will order a high quality one with extra length. I have the monitor hooked up to the DPort on a Gigabyte Nvida 1050 ti (4GB) card on a new build with a i7- 6950X Chip on a AS Rock X99/ac ITX Motherboard with 500 Watts of power. Windows 10. Running at 2160p / 60 Hz. Wow. Have to see to appreciate. Initially came up with low resolution when I switch from the really old VGA monitor I was using to fire up the computer. The computer might have found the monitor on the next boot up, but I didn't bother to try. I proactively loaded the driver from the disk that came with the monitor. Went very well, and came up with the 2160p on the re-start. I am not sure this glare is high or low, but no complaints. What ever this is called, I like it. No missing spots, No smudges, No dark areas. No light areas. Super crisp and sharp from edge to edge. The size is perfect for desk use. And the total lack of flicker is easy on the eyes. I have not used the stand. The attachment to the Ergotron articulating arm was easy. The plate on the arm matched the outline on the monitor and the holes lined up perfectly. No need to use the extension legs to mount the monitor to this arm. The monitor stand that was packaged with the monitor - is still in the box. Did not try the other inputs. DPort worked very well so I stayed with it. Enjoy :- ) [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rivals MacIntosh Retina® Displays

I'm used to the clarity and color balance of the MacIntosh Retina® displays and wanted something as close as possible without paying their huge price. I'm using it with a new Mac Mini with the M1 chip and the display delivers in spades. I do professional photography and desktop publishing so the 4k monitor is a joy to work with during those long hours.

I bought this monitor over a month ago after a lot of research and with some trepidation as I had never purchased a separate monitor before. I replaced my 8 year old iMac with a Mac Mini M2 for personal use. The LG monitor being 4K seemed superior to me in many ways and was well priced. It turned out to be easy to set up and actually surprised me as to how great it is. It came bundled with HDMI cable and I downloaded the manual from the LG site but it turned out that the quick start guide was enough...almost just plug and play. The display rivaled that of the excellent one on the old computer and it was just immediately compatible with the mini. The adjustments are very easy to make with the joystick and once you set your connection that's it. There aren't speakers nor is there a port to connect them nor is there a camera but these are taken care of at a budget price since there is such a big savings on such a high quality display. The stand is stable enough but there is the ability to purchase and attach a custom one but I don't find that necessary. The monitor comes securely packed with supplied cables. In my case HDMI works well since the computer only goes to 60 hz. Text, color and video appear excellent to my eyes and if one is a gamer should be capable of displaying most games. I don't know about the longevity, obviously but I have had to large LG TV sets and they have been very reliable in my past experience.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I did by this a month ago hoping to have a second screen that would work along side iMac Retina. For the most part the resolution is as close to the retina display as I think I can hope to find for the price.

Review of LG 24UD58-B 24 Inch 4K UHD Monitor
(4)
Reviewed in the USA on 2018-06-06T17:00:00

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Due to the high 4K resolution, the LG 24UD58-B resolution is really crisp. The drawback of the 4K resolution is that text is often small and while it is possible to increase the font size in each application, there are still fonts in each application that may still be really tiny. Still trying to figure out how to increase some of the font sizes. The paper instructions that come with the monitor just show the power button and do not explain that the on screen controls can be controlled by the joystick also. However, the digital version of the manual does show that the joystick can do more than just turn on and off the monitor. The monitor warns not to use cables that are not provided by LG even when the cables from LG are used, but that can be disabled.
