Live Through the '80s [DVD]

More of a character study rather than straight monster romp, director Monte Hellman's (Two-Lane Blacktop,The Shooting) first feature is released in a fully restored and unedited version by Synapse Films. The print does show some minor pixilation of the blacks in a few spots, but overall it is quite clean. It is presented with a choice of either a full-frame or widescreen anamorphic (aspect ratio of 1.66:1) version. The soundtrack is in Dolby Digital 2.0 mono and is in rough shape, with some sections barely audible. Unfortunately, the only other feature is the theatrical trailer. Other than the restoration aspect, this disc can barely be defined as a "special edition."
