Mad Ghoul, The

"Am I alive or dead?" "Man or beast?" These are questions medical student Ted Allison (David Bruce) will ultimately ask his chemistry professor, Dr. Morris (George Zucco), who's used him in a ghastly experiment. Dr. Morris' research into ancient Egyptian gases has uncovered on that induces "death in life," a paralysis that robs it victims of their wills and turns them into obedient zombies. Enlisting Ted's help in the lab, the doctor secretly exposes him to the gas, making him dependent on the antidote: serum made from a newly dead heart. Meanwhile, Ted would like to focus on his fiancee, Isabel Lewis (Evelyn Ankers), but his life-sustaining need take precedence over romance, sending him to graveyards for fresh hearts. Will Ted ever be free of his nightmare, or is he doomed to a life steeped in death? Creepy atmosphere and clever touches add to the effectiveness of the supernatural shocker!.
