I bought this for $200 and so far it is the best money spent! The Charcoal grills are hard to regulate, and gas is ok but this one ROCKS! I love the temp and timer on it and simple to load chips so far I have used it twice and I love it! others complained about clean up, but you have to do that with anything. not to hard to clean. but the ribs I have done turned out great each time! fall off the bone gooooooooood n smoky! can't wait to do some fish and other meats and cheeses.
Well worth every penny and does an excellent job. Highly recommended.
Set it up in minutes, works great and temp is very accurate. I put a separate oven thermometer inside and it read exactly. But Do not waste your money on the window version. You can not see anything after about 2 hours of smoking. the window blacks out. I should have saved the $20. Otherwise it seems to work ok. I made 5 lbs of smoked ribs on the top and second rack at 220 deg and they were done in less than 3 hours according to my meat thermometer. Slight leak around the base from the steam inside that runs down the walls and door. The warranty stinks at only 90 days and if it breaks down past that point the entire thing is riveted together so nothing is easily serviceable without a drill!
I would not recommend this smoker because the window is pointless it clouds up the first 5 min of smoking and after you smoke two times the smoke on the window is so heavy you can't wipe it clean. If you plan to smoke in the winter it will be harder to maintain the temperature because the glass releases a lot of heat. Also the window that I had just leaked grease even after smoking multiple times. The grease puddle was about 2 feet big. I bought this smoker on 6/2/13 when i unpacked the smoker it was missing the screws and two pans. I called up Masterbuilt and they said I was missing the hardware kit so they sent me the kit which I received on 6/7/13. When I assembled the smoker I noticed there was a bracket missing screws so I called up again and sent them photos. This time they waited till the 13th and said just exchange it where you bought it. I would of hoped they would just mail me a new smoker and pickup the bad smoker since I had to wait so long for their responses and I don't have a truck to hull back and forth. If you look at the picture you can see how dark the window is and this is after I scrubbed it for 20 min you can also see all of the grease the window leaked out this did not leak from the bottom at all.
Have replaced the digital reader twice. I've had my smoker for roughly 3 years. I keep it outside covered when not in use. When new, on the third use, the digital read out stopped working. In other words, the numbers where have lit. Couldn't tell if it was a 2 or 5 or 7. This was the case across the board, heat and timer. Called customer service to replace, $19.00 + shipping costs. Replaced the unit and the new one worked once and the same issue once again. This time I took the timer apart down to it's circuit board. I discovered that the digital read out had stress on the wiring. The circuit board which controls the functions was warped from the soldering and coating. As smoker heats up, the more it warps since the unit sits on top right by the exhaust. If you twisted the board, the numbers would function. Unfortunately, you can't twist it to stay functional. If this unit had a better reader, I would give it a 4. My brother has a Masterbuilt Smoker with the reader in the front and has no issues with his.
