I love this smoker!! This is my second one like this and was so happy I was able to find it. I love the wide box. Just a suggestion I use a large aluminum throw away pan for my water pan! It's large and best past just throw it away! The smoker cooks great and so easy. I love smoking meat and giving it to friends and family that are sick or when they have lost love ones. Again I was so excited to find the identical one I had.
We have had our Smoker for 4 years. We have used it almost weekly. Have replaced the flame bowl, water tray several times. We now are replacing the entire unit. It has rusted ou around the burner and we don't feel it is safe now. We have looked at other units but have decided to go back with the 230. Can't say how much we have enjoyed the one we have. It cooks with perfection. We normally cook a Boston Butt, couple of whole Chickens and usually Fresh Sausage. Never had a fail. Never had anything burn or dry out. I'm a don't like change person but feel comfortable with this. My neighbors all know Sunday is smoke day.
Well the smoker so much I had to get a second one to be able to cook twice as much as with the first one I love it love it love it love it
I am enjoying the new smoker, I am concerned that the gauge of metal used for the wood pan support ring and the floor of the smoker are not heavy enough. I use my smoker at least once or more per month and burned through the 1st one within 18 months. Time will tell. Thank you
I see temp control issues. I, personally, have never had any issues. Once I learned to place a cast iron skillet inside, for the wood, all issues went away....... Until, finally, after 2 years, the bottom rusted out. I'm very sad, because it is a good smoker, it just doesnt last long enough.
I bought this a month ago and it was very easy to assemble and start using. Seasoning it is simple (but necessary) and I've used it about ten times since receiving it. My only complaint is that the tray just above the burner (below the water pan) allows too much flame to hit the water-soaked wood chips and they end up burning too fast. I've instead started using those little 5x3 disposable wood-chip containers to sit on that tray, but there just barely enough room for it to fit. I wish the height of the water pan shelf was adjustable or was an inch or two higher. Also, the only vents are on the back near the top. There should be an additional set of vents at the lower back of the unit so that you can better control airflow. Don't trust the temperature gauge on the front, mine reads about 20 degrees lower than what my digital thermometers show as the actual temp and I've used two to double check, mine are right the analog gauge is wrong. Other than that I love the smoker, I can often just set the temp and walk away and it will maintain a temp to within a 5 degree swing for over an hour. Adding additional wood chips is quick easy despite the issues already mentioned. You don't need to babysit it in order to have your meat come out perfectly. My only real regret is that I wish I went for the larger one.
So, a little less than a year ago, my wife and I buy this smoker and we fell in love with it right from the get go. Was easy to learn and it turned out some great meat (reason for 2 stars). We're in Wisconsin, so our smoke season is less than 6 months and just 15 minutes ago I open the door to stir my homemade BBQ sauce I was smoking and to check the temp on dinner and the weld on the door hinges snap. This is the 2nd smoke of this year and now I have a freezer full of meat ready for the smoker that has to wait until we buy a new one. IF Masterbuilt doesn't do something about it, our replacement will not be from them.....
I have bought two different sizes if the LP smoker. The first I had for 4 yrs. It did a great job, but rusted out and the last time i used it, the front caught fire and melted the knob off the front. The second, used twice, the first time, it dumped fuel and all my meat taseted like suet. Got a new line and regulator, the second time using it, the front cought fire and melted the knob on it also. Had i not gone out to check on it, the LP feed line started to melt off the bottom of the heat adjustment, the end result could have been much worse.
I purchased this smoker as a gift for my husband for Christmas. He was diagnosed with on December 28th and hospitalized on New Years Eve, for 5 days. After finally recovering he was excited to use his gift. We used the smoker one time, and upon the second use discovered the igniter is no longer working. Very disappointed in this purchase.
Received this as a gift in 2015. So it's almost seven years old. I doubt I've used it more than 15 times. It's lived outside, but it's always been covered. The bottom plate of the firebox has rusted terribly. I checked this web site for appropriate parts, but I don't think I'll find what I need. I don't see any replacement for the bottom plate with the cylinder... I don't even see that I can buy the whole box. Very sad... Note to Masterbuilt's engineers... there's FIRE here at this part of the box. STAINLESS STEEL WOULD HAVE BEEN A BETTER CHOICE FOR THIS SECTION OF THE BOX. The rest of it is fine. VERY disappointed. So now I either need to buy a new one (won't be this brand...) or MacGyver a stainless steel plate with the little cylinder around the burner.
