i do love these packets! i am a suckers at the storw for these type of stuff. i love to try different things with. the tomato, garlic, basil marinade was so good. i used it on cheicken , but i can only imagine hoe good it would be on pork, or beef. i also grilled the chicken on the grill out doors. it was terrific.. i reccomend this highly...
I have tried tons of marinades and this one certainly got my attention. Used it with t-bones and I ended up eating more than I should. It tasted so good I couldn't help myself but to eat more. It's got the distinct combination taste of tomato, garlic and basil which are my favorites and if you marinade the meat for at least 30 mins. before putting them on the grill, it's gonna be a bomb! Get ready to roll your sleeves and attack!
I used this product with chicken thighs that I had removed the skin from. I followed the simple instructions on how to prepare the marinade, left the chicken sit in it for the recommended time. I used a glass baking dish and placed the chicken with the marinade into it and baked it in the oven. Very good flavor, nice and tender chicken. I liked that there was no waste. Some marinades suggest disposing of the left over product when preparing to bake. I would caution those on a low-salt diet to beware. The first ingredient listed on the package is salt. Even if salt is not a concern, I wouldn't salt the meat before or after marinating. When the weather warms up, planning on purchasing this product again for the grill. There seems to be enough of the product left over after marinating to use to baste during the grilling process.
Grill Mates Tomato Garlic & Basil Marinade was a yummy way to liven up a London broil that I took from the freezer planning to cook on the grill. I allowed it to thaw part of the way, then made the marinade according to the package directions. I placed the meat in a zippered plastic bag, added the marinade and let it soak in for a few hours in the fridge while it continued to thaw. By the time we were ready for dinner, the meat was nicely marinated, thawed and ready for the grill. It had a very nice flavor and everyone asked for my recipe. Because I didn't have to fuss over a dressing for the meat, I had time to devote to some other nice side dishes for the barbecue. I will definitely use this product again. I think we'll have Grill Mates Tomato Garlic & Basil Marinated Chicken next week!
This is a very flavorful combination. The package contains enough product to cover meat or vegetables to serve 4-6 people comfortably. The fact that it is tomato based is a nice departure from most of the rubs & marinades on the market. Depending on what liquid you use to mix it with just adds to its versatility. The flavor is pleasant but not overpowering so it would be a pleasant taste for children. So often they don't appreciate the bolder flavors of some concoctions. Combining it with a fruit juice is also a nice alternative. I found it gave a nice flavor without affecting the color of the food too much. I used it on chicken and vegetables and found it to be a nice change of pace without requiring a lot of effort. To prepare all you have to do is tear open the packet, add the liquid of your choice and submerge your food of choice. In 30 minutes you're ready to cook.
When I first got this I was in big hurry to try and it rained for days. Well that left me time to read over the package and find a few neat things I really wanted to try. I used the option to use spicy mustard instead of vinegar with the splash of lemon juice. Yes I used it on chicken and had enough left over sauce to throw on some burger patties too and let them all soak overnight. Cooked it all up and yeah that was that rather great flavor on both types of meet! Try something fresh and new dare yeah.
I was impressed by the taste of this seasoning. It went perfect with the grilled chicken I made on the BBQ. Awesome flavoring and taste. Will highly recommend it.
I used this on pork ribs, My family all agreed the taste was great, and the ribs we're very well flavored!!
This marinade is very easy to use, and tastes pretty good. However, it really needs to marinate longer than the directions advise. The package directions say to marinate for 15 mins. I let it go for 20, and only a light flavor was given to the steaks. I think most people are going to want a lot more flavor, requiring at least a few hours of marinating. The package also says to to baste with "remaining marinade halfway through cooking, if desired." This should never be done. Raw meat has been soaking in the marinade: If you want to do this, reserve some for basting before putting the raw meat in it. This marinade is for 2 lbs of meats, and requires you to provide water, vegetable or oil olive, and vinegar (not included).
With salt listed as the first ingredient, one would expect it to be primarily salt. Yet, I would love if they listed what the actual percentage is. According to the packet, there's 330mg of sodium per serving and ten servings equaling 3300 milligrams, which converts to .1164 ounces. If the packet is .87 oz, then supposedly salt is only 14 percent. Tasting the dry mix, it seemed as if it was over 50% salt. That said, I made the marinade, adding olive oil and vinegar; and using only it to flavor 4 fileted chicken breasts let them soak for about a half-hour; then tossed the breasts onto the grill. Immediately the marinade started dripping off and onto the fire, which gave off a bitter burnt vinegar smell and a strong garlic aroma. It was almost half nasty, half sweet smelling, if you can envision that. To get the glazed look on the packet, I had to add a pinch of flour and a tablespoon of sugar to the leftover marinade to thicken it and get it to that nice caramelized color. Serving the breasts to my guests, their review was generally, “It's alright.” The marinade did soak fully into the breasts but the flavor was mostly salt and vinegar; if there's tomato, it's minuscule. Overall, as a one-time thing and a free sample, “It's alright.” However, for anyone who cooks regularly, they'll have all these seasonings in their cupboard. Using fresh garlic, basil and dried tomatoes, along with maybe some low-sodium adobe or whatever you fancy, you can probably make a better blend for a marinade yourself – and use way less salt in the process!
