I have had the Meade for 3 weeks now and it works great. I put the 2 units side by side and installed the batteries and both were right on. I have the sensor on the front porch just sitting for now on a table. The porch has an awning so the sensor does not get wet or exposed to direct sunlight. The base unit is on a table inside the house right by a bay window. Both units are only 3 feet apart so maybe that is why the readings are so accurate. I look at the temp and compare them with the news and the internet. They are sometimes 1 degree different but that is perfect in my eyes. The big numbers are real nice. Some people say it needs a back-light which is really no big deal unless you live in a cave. I researched a lot of different wireless thermometers and I decided on this one and I'm happy I did my homework. Wal-Mart has the best prices and I picked it up at the store for free.
THE HYGOMETER MAY NOT BE VERY ACCURATE. REMEMBER TO PLACE BATTERIES IN THE OUTSIDE UNIT BEFORE THE INSIDE MAIN UNIT.
Had it for about two weeks and so far, so good! Works as described. I use the main unit in my basement to let me know when to run the dehumidifier and the outside remote unit to tell me when the humidity is low enough to open the basement windows instead. Happy with my purchase.
This is an easy to use, easy to read device that delivers simply on simple promises. The remote unit works perfectly despite being thirty feet and a full floor away allowing me to monitor the heat in the bedroom from downstairs and adjust the thermostat BEFORE I go to bed. I can also make sure my humidifier is working. Fewer trips up and down the stairs at night was what I wanted and what I got.
I was all set to buy the Honeywell version of this when a Google search found this name brand on what appears to be the identical unit for half the price. With free shipping from Walmart it was a no-brainer. It was easy to set up and we find it very useful.
I spent weeks researching various digital thermo-hygrometer devices. This device pretty much beats everything out there, at least in the sub $50 price range. It has a very large display that can be read from across room. The optional cycle mode is especially useful as it switches back and forth between inside and outside readings about every 4 seconds. The external sensor has both temp and humidity readings on it as well and is gasket-sealed for longer term survival. Accuracy is excellent. I compared this device against three other known calibrated devices and it was basically dead on. As for complaints, there is a lot of real-estate on the screen that goes to waste. Meade could have included the daily min/max in small digits for the temp and humidity like some Acu-Rite products do. I have found that feature really useful. Also, while the device looks "sleak", the transparent plastic they put over the display actually softens the numbers and make it harder to read. It would be sharper and clearer without that plastic covering, not to mention it can easily get a glare from lighting in the room. Finally, and this is the only "major" complaint so to speak, the temperature logic is a bit slow to respond to temperature changes. If you are wanting a device to monitor the behavior of you indoor climate control (such as A/C) the temperature is slow (5+ minutes) to reflect changes and then takes it's sweet time adjusting in the direction on the temperature change. This is not uncommon with some digital thermometers as they try to "average" the temperature over a certain time period, but is still irritating if you are wanting a more real-time view of the actual temps. Humidity level on the other hand is reasonably rapid to respond. Overall great device, highly recommended. If you want something to monitor both temperature and humidity, and want to be able to read the data from a distance, then this is your device. The ability to also display outside temps and cycle back-n-forth between inside and outside displays is a big bonus.
I could nit pick it, but It does the job, and the price is reasonable. I am satisfied. Please note that the outdoor sensor is not fully weather proof. It should be mounted on a porch or other sheltered location so it is not directly exposed to the elements.
I bought two of these thermometers with remote sensors. One detected the remote well, the other took some fiddling to get it sync'd. Within 30 minutes the troublesome remote became invisible and would not relock to its display unit. The remotes were on different frequencies. Returning one for a replacement.
it is only a degree / percent or two off from what the news said. I plan on buying more. And i gave it a 4 star because it is a degree / percent or 2 off.
Works as expected, based on product description. Tips: Essential to follow the instructions, including: Always install batteries in the remote sensor before the main unit. Should be no problems with either the main unit or remote. This model doesn't have a calibration function, so I recommend you calibrate the main unit by going to the internet and searching "how to calibrate a hygrometer." It's a do-it yourself essential and easily done. After you calibrate the main unit, you'll know how many percentage points to add (in your head) to the figure on the screen to know the real humidity level. It's not a complaint, but just something necessary for most hygrometers. After you calibrate the main unit, then place the remote next to it for a day, then compare its reading to the main unit and you'll be able to "calibrate" it based on the main unit's reading. I put the main unit in the living room, and the remote down in the crawl space. I plan to buy additional remote units for other locations. (A week later, while shopping in a Walmart store, I found thermometer-hygrometers on the shelf in the hardware section, so keep that in mind as an option. But, no complaints about the on-line purchase.)
