I've been using miracle grow potting mixes for years. Yes the soil is unsterilized. My method is simple . I add Bonide Systemic Houseplant Insect Control to any and all potting mixes. This will help keep pests out of your life. Nobody wants these little beast flying around their home. To ensure they don't come back,as they do like wet soil. After 3-6 months I apply a tablespoon of the systemic to each and every plant in my collection. To lighten the cactus mix add equal parts perlite to improve drainage.
I use this soil for everything Not just cactus and palms and the such Honestly a lot of these bad reviews, to me, seem like an overwatering problem Perhaps the mentioning of fast draining gives the impression that you can or should water often My recommendation, cut your watering in half Even if you don't have an overwatering problem I think you'd be surprised how long plants can go without a drink Just something to consider I know every situation is not the same I'm generalizing
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am surprised how well this works. There are multiple ways to apply this. I mixed it up with a quart of water, and will be able to make many batches this way. My cacti have been very impressive since I have used this. I even used it on my outside cacti this spring. Impressive results especially since I live in northwest Ohio.
I can hardly believe my eyes! I knew there was hope! I've transplanted my Christmas Cactus with your potting soil for Succulents and also purchased the Pump bottle of Succulent plant food. My plants are now thriving; hence the name “Miracle”-gro. Haha! My plants were stunted, now flourishing!! The new growth is amazing!! Thanks.
I use this product on all my cacti, I never had a problem other then I might of over watered them a couple of times. I leave them out in the summer and bring them in the fallen. I have several different kinds of cacti and each are doing well. I have bought several bags to repot some of them and still not a problem with any bugs, gnats or mushrooms. Well maybe occasional caterpillar from outside. LOL all my cacti were purchased local and starters in 2013. I have had great results with miraclegro potting soil for cacti!
I bought two bags of this product and repotted a staghorn and half a dozen holiday cactus. The plants are indoor plants and haven't been outdoors. I was astonished to discover all the fungus gnats that have been coming from the dirt. I actually saw some fly out of the bag when I opened them. I had to purchase tacky sticks to try to address the problem. I'm actually considering treating the soil itself to stop potential future hatchings. Very disgusted!
I bought this a few months ago and we noticed gnats all over our house for the first time. We were told by horticulture friends that they were fungus gnats and we needed to dispose of the soil and replant. We completely rinsed off our plant to the root, put the soil in a plastic bag and threw it away outside. We bought another bag of the same soil and THEY'RE BACK! I don't know where the product is becoming contaminated, but we won't buy it again. What a headache!
Pretty much killed my big beautiful dracena I'm so angry to see these reviews confirming what I thought. I moved in June and thought it might be stress but when I pulled it out the root ball was soaked-I covered the foliage and laid it on the deck to dry out and after 2 days (brought it in at night) it was still soaked and I had to remove the dirt from the roots with my fingers. I'll never ever ever buy another MG product as they obv don't know wth they're doing. Will be HARD to replace this dracena and I have another dracena that I have to repot now too.
Bough this to repot my succulents and weeks later notice mushrooms/fugues growing in one of the my pot. Didn't really bother me at first because it was just one pot but then later on all my other pots starts to grow and have thick mushrooms coming out. That's when I really got mad.
Tried pumping the fertilizer into pot but only drips came out. Poor pumping mechanism. Will be returning for a refund.
