I was really surprised by this. I got it to replace a well known and more expensive controller whose usb port fell apart. This has more functions than my previous controller and cost significantly less. I like that it has program change which seems to be lacking in many modern controllers. It took about a minute to get it up and running and beginning to make use of the many features. I'm a new owner so I can't say anything about how sturdy it is but it feels solid.
It is a powerful midi controller for it's price and I'm still exploring it's capabilities. I doesn't require it's own power supply the usb current being sufficient for it and that surprised me. The only caveat I have is that is surprisingly heavy. Oh well, you can't make an omelette without breaking a few "yeggs" as they say. :-)
The overall function and use of the keyboard is easy and I would definitely recommend it. It performs adequately and the keys are pretty responsive. Not too difficult to press not too loose. It's pretty much a breeze to set up if you knows something about computers or you're intuitive enough to sort of experiment a little because the instructions really don't tell you a lot. They say it's plug-and-play but it's really not. It wasn't on my Mac anyway. I had to go into the midi studio app and set up the interface myself. Once you've got it set up and functioning, MIDI is pretty confusing and the learning curve is pretty steep but the keyboard itself works ok without messing around with any MIDI settings. I'm using GarageBand and I get adequate sounds from all the digital instruments without changing any settings on the keyboard itself. Hope that helps.
The device arrives with what i believe is a ROM CD. For laptop users without a disc drive this is pointles. The paper instruction manual is lacking in what the CD ROM most likely provides. Otherwise, the MIDI controller works perfectly and knobs send signals without issue. I will say the keys really does feel like a quality keyboard compared to thinner smaller synths. This does lack portability due to the size but weight is very minimal/light I use FL Studio with this device on a personal pc. I prefer not to speak on my shipping experience. It was a stressful event. 4 stars - i got what i paid for.
The 49-Key MIDI Keyboard Controller is simply an input device to control certain aspects of musical software to create or edit your own music and to control certain functions within that software. I have really enjoyed playing around with this keyboard controller. First you must note that this is not your typical keyboard where you plug it up and play. This has no audio speakers and you must use a music editing software program which you can find and download for free and you will need an output device such as a computer or using the 5 pic MIDI DIN output, you can connect directly to sound modules or sequencers. This keyboard controller does not require a MIDI hub although you can use one if you desire. You can plug it right into your computer, let it install the driver and you are ready to use it with your choice of software, which is not included. You can program different sounds to different keys and create unique music. This keyboard comes with a small CD that is your user manual and a usb cable. Overall, this has been a fun piece of equipment. While this is a lower end unit, it is still complex and it is best that you know how to use the unit and the software before purchasing. I look forward to creating my own music for my YT channel and blog.
We're successfully using it with a variety of software on Mac for ad hoc and recording purposes. We've even managed to use it with an iphone for quick edits and informal performance. No real complaints. It has the basic necessary features for keyboard inputs, and we use the software and mixers for most of the rest we need, so it fills our requirements. We'll see how it holds up over time.
I like it fine but I have been unable to get the transposition function. When I press and hold the edit button and press the down arrow I am unable to get it to transpose down by a simitone. I haven't tried any other function except the octave up and down which does work.
id like to rate it higher but the mod wheel was out of alignment and i found midi data was pretty bizarre in how it was implemented, especially CC values. also i know i shouldn't have done this but dropped it once and the usb connector is super janky.. seems a bit poorly made on that critical connector. overall, i would have bought a better keyboard for 30-40 more dollars.
I had to return the keyboard. Mine was defective. After spending 2 hours with the manual, I was unable to get the transpose function to work, which is essential to me.
iT'S NOT WHAT I THOUGHT IT WAS AND WHEN I WENT TO RETURN IT, IT COST 55.00 TO SHIP BACK TO CAL. I ENDED UP JUST KEEPING IT AND TRY TO SELL LOCALLY INSTEAD OF MAILING IT BACK....LEARNED A LESSION
