OK so the biggest misconception with this veggie bacon is that it tastes like chemical however, that could not be further from the truth. There is a need to follow the directions and keep frozen/only pan fry. I use a oil spray salt and pepper the veggie bacon flip every two minutes wait until it is browned and then drizzle maple syrup of choice… Thank me later.
I decided to give this bacon a try, to reduce fats in my diet. I found it quite tasty and easy to prepare. I like it just a little on the crispy side. I don't miss all the grease regular bacon has. The flavor may not be as robust as regular bacon, but the flavor is still there without all the fat and chlesterol.
Love Morning star products! The bacon is my newest find, the hot dogs are to die for.., all taste amazing! Unfortunately, small town 50 miles one way to purchase these amazing products😒
What I eat almost every day. It's amazing. The don't look the best but they taste amazing. I started eating them when I went vegetarian 14 years ago. I would make BLTs with them. Now I eat them for breakfast almost daily.
If you cook this in the microwave and don't like it, blame the microwave and not the product. The taste is great and when fried in the skillet you can easily control the texture based on how long you cook it for.
The quote is from my roommate, who regularly consumes meat and is a pretty good authority on meat- It is legitimately fantastic to eat, there's just a few note to make it perfect: #1- Needs more of the pseudo-fat, both to make it potentially crispier and to add a stronger bacon flavour- my roommate also describes the flavour as the way bacon smells, and additional fat on the typically less fatty side with the 'meatier' bit being in the middle. Overall fantastic work, absolutely delicious.
I've been buying these for a few years, and lately the strips have been getting a little too thick. Also, if the price gets any higher on these, I'm going to STOP BUYING them.
I started eating this product after finding out I needed to get healthier. It was a little over a year ago & now my Dr. says my health issues have resolved. Eating this product is part of a no red meat, low carb, no dairy diet. It ‘s not something you can walk away from while cooking as it is easily overcooked. To begin cooking it I've found I need to remove it from the freezer for about 10 minutes to thaw a little so that the strips can be peeled apart easily. This might be added to the instructions as I've seen some reviews that expressed concern with this part of the cooking preparation. I feel it is best cooked to a light brown color to get the crispy texture. Any softer texture I feel it is undercooked & doesn't taste as good. I do have a question about it though. After cooking it if I don't consume it immediately do the leftovers need to be refrigerated or is it ok to store in a ziplock bag at room temperature?
I buy this for my husband. If it wasn't for him I would never buy this product, mainly for the fact that it's infuriating to try and peel it apart. Every once in a while I'll get a package where the slices come apart easily but more often it's all one giant frozen clump that you have to try and shave apart and it start to crumble into pieces and instead of one slice you have tiny chunks or one piece that's missing parts but has other parts from another piece stuck to it. It's a disaster. Idk if this is something that happens in transit where it doesn't stay at a certain temp so it defrosts a bit a then freezes as one or if this is an issue when it's made. Either way I hate it. Aside from that it looks like something that would be in a child's play kitchen and has the consistency of card stock. It seems like bacon flavored paper. Flavor wise they did an ok job. You know it's not bacon but it's something trying to be bacon. Good effort but all in all I hate this product. When I messaged morning star asking about why the bacon is always stuck together their solution was to microwave it for 5 seconds to separate it. Microwave the whole package each time? Doesn't sound right.
New packaging ruined my day. (Maybe not, but it's still lame.) The new package now says "Plant Based" all over it. By that definition everything except a slab of meat is plant based. Stupid. Make it vegan already and don't try to be tricky with your new packaging.
