500 mg tablets are the best size; the 1000 mg tablets are very hard to swallow. L-Lysine is one of the best things I have ever tried to stop cold sores. As soon as I feel one coming on I take 2000 mg that night. I then take about 1500 mg the next morning and again that night. I can then feel the cold sore disappearing. It never gets to the bleeding point when caught early enough. I also take 500 mg every morning and night with my regular vitamins to help prevent the sores altogether.
