This nerf gun, which is essentially a re-release of the original Spectre Rev-5 can be compared to the Strongarm, having a similar design but being sleeker and only holding 5 bullets instead of 6. The internals have been reworked to a direct plunger system, which unlike the previous reverse plunger system, allow this gun to fire much farther than it's predecessor. This gun is more suited to stealth missions and medium ranged combat. The reload is quieter than my Retaliator and about the same as the Strongarm. This gun however is more accurate than the Strongarm. I could easily hit a 1 gallon jug of milk from about 50 feet away, but the Strongarm tends to get a little inaccurate around this range. The barrel is purely cosmetic and does not hinder the velocity of the darts but does improve accuracy, meaning that with or without it on, the dart will still fire the same distance, but having it on will help when you're shooting farther targets. This is different from the Retaliator barrel which increases accuracy but reduces range. The stock is useful for taller people like myself since it's so long. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars is the loadout size. I wish they could have put a 6 barrel in this. You also can't one hand flick it close it like the Strongarm or Maverick, so that might become an issue where time is of the essence and you have to reload immediately. I haven't had the gun jam on me so far. Since the revolver only revolves when the gun is primed, this prevents a few issues of slow trigger pull that the Maverick had. If you're thinking of buying this $20 gun, you won't be disappointed in it. It fires just as far as the Strongarm, is more accurate (Especially with the barrel) and overall looks cool. If you need a quick reloading handgun that fires faster (slam firing) and can help in a close quarters fight, get the Strongarm. Otherwise, if there is some distance between you and your target and you have some time to think out your shot, this gun will prove to be better. You just have to make sure your shots count, but that shouldn't be too much of an issue given how accurate this gun is. If you see this and the older non-elite Spectre, get this one instead. It's not recommended as a primary gun due to the barrel size and rate of fire, but the Strongarm or the Stryfe can substitute that.
The Nerf N-strike 'Elite' version of the Spectre Rev-5 is more than just a new paint job, but they have revamped the internals as well. While it is nowhere near the 75ft that is advertised a fully functional #non-modded# blaster should still shoot 40-50ft no problem. I got one of these and I noticed that half the time the darts would just kinda fall out of the barrel and if I was able to get a good shot off it was 15ft MAX. After doing some research there appears to be quite a few 'defective' units that were shipped out. If this happens, just go and exchange it and that should take care of the problem. I know that some people had to exchange 2-3 times before they got a good one, but trust me its def worth it. On the other hand if you are stuck with one of these 'lemons' there is a way to fix it. Just look online for a replacement spring and that will get it firing alot better. Hope this helps guys. Nerf or Nothin.
