We just got this a week ago and already have used it twice and it was slick, easy and did not take long. We are learning to keep the pieces/slices uniform for easier evaluation of complete drying.
I use this to dry herbs and tomatoes, and it is so easy no use. Just plug it it and flip the on switch. I use a Christmas Tree timer in cases where I don't want it to run all night. Loved the price!
We bought it as a Christmas gift. It was hard to find (Nesco Dehydrator) in the stores. The recipient loved it, and delivery was prompt. We ordered it thru On-line ordering.
We use product for making beef jerky, a family favorite. It's in use probably 2 weekends a month cranking out lots of jerky for the grand children. Now here's the only problem: 3 1/2 pounds of beef fill the unit. At about $3.50/pound that's about $15/run, not counting all the spices, etc. My 16 year old grandson alone can eat nearly one full unit of jerky in two days. At this rate we're going to need to take out a loan to keep buying beef to turn into jerky. Seriously, this is a great dehydrator, easy to use & clean and the internet has lots of great recipes.
We bought this mainly to make jerky and have been very happy with it. We have only used it twice, but both times the jerky was fantastic. I wish there was an easy way to clean the trays though. Still love it. Plus, all you have to do is push the on button and away it goes with a setting of a 160°. Just check every now and then to see if it's done.
You should buy this one. I bought a used one and worked it hard. It died and I purchased a second one ... Then fixed the first one, it was a overheat switch gone bad. So now we have two. They are very efficient. We've had others and prefer this one the most. A little noisy, but works at least twice as fast and no need to rotate the trays.
A coworker gave us some home made jerky for her dog and told us she bought a dehydrator from Walmart. After we searched online we bought this one. We got some organic chicken and tried it for the 1st time and it turned out great. If you want to make treats for your dog I suggest you do it! I think if you season the meat, you can make some for yourself. We are going to make dried apples in the fall!
This dehydrator does a good job with drying thin meats, herbs, and fruit. For the price, you can't beat it. I would recommend separator sheets to keep items from sticking to the plastic trays. Photo is an example of how much can fit on a single tray.
So I knew, going in, that i wouldn't have temp control or timers or anything fancy. It just works and the price is right. It turns on, it turns off. Rotate tray order around sometimes. It's a bit louder than my generic 20in box fan and slightly higher in pitch. Works great, and i love it.
Although I think this drier is perfect in size and weight, the cord crossing over the lid and drier heat is a bit worrisome.not prob.the safest design espec over time.sm watching it
